Camila Cabello is setting the record straight. The hitmaker recently (March 6) appeared on the Call Her Daddy podcast to address her relationship status and rocky romance with ex-boyfriend Shawn Mendes. 

The former Fifth Harmony star and Mendes started dating in 2019 and broke up in 2021 after they quarantined together during the global health crisis. Back in April, the two were spotted locking lips at Coachella, setting the internet ablaze. Cabello confirmed they weren't together, but confessed that she's not opposed to sparking old flames with her ex-lovers. 

Cabello's openness about giving their relationship another shot resonated with many. It was a testament to the idea that love deserves a second chance.

"I think it's known, I'm a fan," said the songstress. "I support it, supported it in the past. I personally think it's helpful. I'm the kind of person – you can't forbid things from me because I will want to do it more." 

Reflecting on her decision to give their relationship another try, Cabello shared her belief in following impulses, admitting that she prefers directness over bottling her feelings.

"It's crazy because I'm kind of impulsive in that way – if I feel it, I say it," explained the "señorita" artist. "The worst thing for it to live in is my mind, and then I'm like Ryan Gosling in The Notebook building a house for this person. So, I would rather say it and see what happens and then wake up the next day and find out that it's been heavily documented. I opted for the route. It is what it is. It was a fun route – it was a fun moment," she added, referring to her recent time with Mendes. 

When hints of a rekindled relationship surfaced at Coachella, fans were left with hope and nostalgia. They were all in, rooting for their love story like it was their own. Despite the outpour of support, the 27-year-old declared they would never get back together.

"It wasn't even a decision, I think you are just kind of like, 'Yeah this doesn't really – it's not a fit," she uttered. "It doesn't feel right. I think luckily, I was in a place in my life where it took me less time to realize that – and it took us both less time to be like, 'This doesn't feel right and we don't really need to try so hard to make it work. It's all good. This is not feeling good, like 'Let's be friends, I love you. It's all good, let's move on.'" 

Cabello holds Mendes in high regard, describing him as her "favorite ex" and praising him as a "really kind, good person." Her kind words display her mature approach to handling past relationships. This glimpse into their post-breakup dynamics offers fans an insightful look at the complexities of navigating relationships in the public eye. 

"I will always care about him and love him, he's such a good person," stressed the chart-topping artist. "I'm lucky 'cause some people have exes who are awful – and he is not. He's a really kind, good person." 

After her breakup with Mendes, Cabello was spotted enjoying Drake's company on vacation in Turks and Caicos, leading fans to wonder about the possibility of a musical partnership or a budding romance. The snapshots show Drake and Cabello riding jet skis, partying on a yacht, and laughing.

"I try to really prioritize that part of my life," she said. "It's just so fun. I honestly love being single."  

Despite her official status, she dodged questions about Drake and whether or not they took their friendship to the next level while spending time in paradise. 

"I wouldn't say straight-up vacation; it was vacation plus some work," Cabello told Alex Cooper with a wink. "The whole internet just broke," Cooper replied. I will say, you know what, I love that man. I love him." 

Although Cabello kept details hush-hush, she did confirm that the trip "may or may not" have resulted in an "artistic collaboration." Fans are now excited by the prospect of these two industry giants collaborating – eagerly awaiting their secretive project.
