The 2025 Grammy Awards brought a whirlwind of unforgettable moments, with show-stopping performances, shocking surprises, and historic wins that made this year’s ceremony one for the books.

From Kanye West’s unwelcome appearance to Lady Gaga’s shocking music video drop during a commercial break, the night was full of twists and buzz-worthy drama. Artists like Chappell Roan, Sabrina Carpenter, and Beyoncé made their mark in monumental ways, each adding their own chapter to the ever-evolving story of the Grammy legacy. Whether it was the unforgettable performances or unapologetic speeches, the 2025 Grammys proved to be a celebration of artistry, change, and unapologetic self-expression.

Here’s a breakdown of the most memorable moments that had everyone talking.

10. The Weeknd’s Polarizing Return

The Weeknd made his grand return to the stage after a controversial absence. Following years of boycotting the ceremony due to what he called the Recording Academy’s lack of transparency, The Weeknd reclaimed the spotlight with a powerful performance of his hit single “Cry for Me.” With the arena darkened and the audience hushed in anticipation, the artist made his entrance from the back of the Crypto.com Arena. The stark red lighting, paired with his striking, futuristic black ensemble, immediately set the tone. As the chorus of “Cry for Me” began, The Weeknd seemed to dive into an endless chasm, his voice soaring over a sea of flashing lights.

The tension of the performance built up perfectly as he moved from platform to platform, delivering each note with intensity. At the song’s emotional peak, The Weeknd’s impassioned vocal performance felt like a rallying cry against his past grievances with the Grammys, and for many, it marked the artist’s return to a stage that he had once abandoned. His performance not only thrilled fans but also served as a statement: The Weeknd was back, and he was here to rewrite his own narrative with the awards show.

9. Kanye West and Bianca Censori's Controversial Appearance

Kanye West and his wife, Bianca Censori, totally shocked everyone with their surprise appearance at the 2025 Grammys. And when I say surprise, we mean jaw-dropping. The couple arrived uninvited, but it wasn’t just their unexpected presence that made heads turn. Bianca’s outfit—let’s just say it was bold. She stepped out in a sheer, barely-there mini-dress designed by Kanye himself, leaving little to the imagination and sparking a frenzy of social media chatter. Was it a statement? Was it planned chaos? Fans couldn’t help but speculate.

But it didn’t end there. Their arrival had all the right people talking, and as quickly as they made their entrance, the couple was escorted out. Word on the street was that they weren’t exactly on the guest list, which only fueled the drama. Of course, a little digging revealed they weren’t totally out of the loop — Kanye was, in fact, nominated for Best Rap Song. But still, the optics of it all felt a bit… off. Was this just another headline-grabbing stunt, or was there something deeper going on behind the scenes? Either way, it was one of the most talked-about moments of the night, and honestly, you couldn’t take your eyes off them.

8. Best New Artist Performances Shine

The Best New Artist category’s medley was an absolute showstopper, setting the bar high for the rest of the night. The performance kicked off with Benson Boone, who brought his signature blend of catchy pop to the stage. Dressed in a sleek black suit, Boone began by singing the mesmeric opening of his hit single “Beautiful Things,” starting from his seat on the floor and slowly making his way through the crowd. As the song reached its pre-chorus crescendo, Boone ripped off the top of his suit, revealing a dazzling blue sequined jumpsuit. The crowd erupted as Boone soared into a backflip on stage, his powerful vocals filling the room. His performance had the raw energy and heart of an artist who had fully embraced his moment in the spotlight.

The transition to the next performance was seamless as Doechii took the stage. Fresh off her win for Best Rap Album, the Tampa native performed a captivating mix of “CATFISH” and “DENIAL IS A RIVER.” Surrounded by an impeccably choreographed group of backing dancers clad in custom Thom Browne gray uniforms, Doechii confidently strutted across a moving walkway, commanding the stage with her uniquely original blend of rap and performance art. The stripped-down moment when her dancers revealed their red, white, and blue underwear outfits made the performance even more bold and iconic, amplifying her unwavering sense of individuality.

Teddy Swims followed with a performance of “Lose Control” that sent waves of awe through the arena. Swims’ powerhouse vocals effortlessly danced across the mic, and the raw vulnerability in his voice during the song’s heartfelt chorus made the moment unforgettable. When Swims sang, “Something’s got a hold of me lately,” there was a palpable sense of sincerity that resonated not only with his fans but with everyone in the room. His performance was a master class in controlling the energy of the room, and it was clear that Swims is an artist destined for longevity.

Next up was Shaboozey, who brought his eclectic fusion of country and hip-hop to the stage. The performance began with a snippet of his latest single “Good News,” which immediately had the crowd on their feet. As he seamlessly transitioned into his chart-topping smash “A Bar Song (Tipsy),” the arena was alive with energy. The country-hip-hop experimentalist’s unique style, along with his infectious charm, created a moment that felt like a celebration of American music culture. With Jennifer Lopez cheering him on from the front row, Shaboozey’s performance was one of the night’s most joyful and high-energy moments.

RAYE brought the medley to a stunning close with a performance of “Oscar Winning Tears.” Wearing a sparkling black dress, RAYE stood at the center of the stage with a vintage-inspired setup, complete with tuxedo-clad backing musicians. Her voice, rich and ethereal, captivated the audience as she serenaded the crowd with her timeless ballad. The impeccable orchestration and old-Hollywood-inspired glamour created a magical atmosphere, one that had the entire room spellbound. As she finished the song, RAYE gleefully bounced on stage, her smile reflecting the pride and joy of the moment.

7. Kendrick Lamar Sweeps With Drake Diss Track "Not Like Us"

Kendrick Lamar dominated the evening with five Grammy wins, solidifying his place as one of the most influential artists of the past decade. His track “Not Like Us,” widely recognized as a diss track aimed at fellow rapper Drake, not only captured the attention of the hip-hop world but also commanded the stage during the ceremony. Lamar took home Record of the Year and Song of the Year for the track, cementing his artistic and cultural relevance. When Lamar accepted his awards, his powerful words and acknowledgment of the Black artists who paved the way for him resonated deeply. He declared, “Nothing more powerful than rap music,” underlining his belief in the genre’s influence.

The tension around the diss track only amplified Lamar’s dominance throughout the night, sparking conversations among fans and critics alike. However, Lamar’s remarks, combined with his flawless performance and unapologetic delivery, made it clear: he remains a force to be reckoned with.

6. Tribute to Quincy Jones by Herbie Hancock, Stevie Wonder, And More

Another highlight of the evening came when Will Smith, Herbie Hancock, and more took the stage to pay tribute to the legendary Quincy Jones. This moment was especially poignant as it marked Smith’s return to the spotlight after a period of absence following the Oscars controversy. The audience gave him a standing ovation as he introduced a heartfelt tribute to Jones. The tribute featured performances from iconic artists, including Cynthia Erivo, who performed a hauntingly gorgeous version of “Fly Me to the Moon" with Hancock on piano, and Stevie Wonder, who led an impassioned rendition of “We Are the World.”

The grand finale of the tribute featured Janelle Monáe, who brought the house down with a high-energy performance of Michael Jackson’s “Don’t Stop ’Til You Get Enough," Jones' magnum opus for production. The tribute encapsulated Jones’ immeasurable influence on both music and culture, leaving an indelible mark on the evening’s celebrations.

5. Taylor Swift’s Surprising Snub and Toast with Jay-Z After Beyoncé’s Win

Despite being one of the night’s most-nominated artists, Taylor Swift left the 2025 Grammys empty-handed, a shocking turn given the buzz surrounding her album The Tortured Poets Department. Swift, however, appeared unfazed by the snub. Cameras captured a behind-the-scenes moment where Swift, along with Jay-Z, raised a glass in a private toast to Beyoncé’s historic victory for Cowboy Carter

Swift found herself in an unexpected and somewhat bittersweet position. Despite receiving six nominations, including nods for Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album for her highly praised album The Tortured Poets Department, Swift walked away empty-handed. It was an unexpected turn for an artist who has been a perennial presence at the Grammys, known for both her chart-topping hits and her Grammy wins over the years.

However, Swift appeared unphased by the snub, with her usual poise and professionalism shining through. In fact, a behind-the-scenes moment captured by the cameras suggested a deeper story — one of mutual respect and camaraderie among artists, regardless of the evening's outcomes. As Beyoncé took the stage to accept her historic win for Cowboy Carter, marking the first time a Black artist had won Best Country Album, Swift was seen sharing a quiet, celebratory toast with Jay-Z, a moment of unity and support that seemed to transcend the night’s competition.

The footage of Swift and Jay-Z raising their glasses together, smiling and toasting in celebration of Beyoncé’s achievement, quickly made its way across social media. Many fans hailed this gesture as a beautiful show of respect and support, an acknowledgment that, at the end of the day, the music industry is more about artistry and collaboration than rivalry. For Beyoncé, this was a monumental win, and Swift’s silent, yet poignant gesture spoke volumes.

But for others, the moment felt complex. Some fans saw it as an understated acknowledgment of the intricate relationships that exist behind the scenes of the music world—relationships that go far beyond awards and accolades. The question arose: why did this moment feel so loaded? Was there a deeper significance in the way Swift, having been shut out despite her critical success, took a step back and showed quiet solidarity with a fellow artist who had just made history?

Swift’s reaction sparked a flurry of discussion online. Some questioned the impartiality of the Grammys, speculating that politics and industry dynamics may have played a role in the evening’s outcomes. Others pondered what this moment said about the balance of power in the music world and the shifting tides of recognition, particularly for artists whose work challenges traditional boundaries. For Swift, it was a moment of humility and grace, but for others, it was a glimpse into the unsung realities of an awards ceremony often thought to be purely about the music.

4. Chappell Roan’s Best New Artist Win

One of the most significant and poignant moments of the 67th Annual Grammy Awards occurred when Chappell Roan was crowned Best New Artist. The pop sensation’s win was no surprise to her dedicated fanbase, but it still carried a weight of significance. As Roan walked to the stage, her striking gown and dunce cap left a lasting visual impression, but it was her speech that stole the spotlight. Holding her award in both hands, Roan made a bold statement on stage, saying “Record labels need to start treating their artists as valuable employees… Labels, we’ve got you, but do you got us?”

Her words resonated with artists and industry professionals alike, calling out the established systems that often take advantage of young talents. Roan’s unapologetic stance against the traditional power structures of the music industry was a defining moment in her career and solidified her as both a vocal advocate for change and a rising star. As the first openly queer artist to win Best New Artist in the past decade, Roan’s victory was a landmark moment not only for her, but for the LGBTQ+ community as a whole. Her win highlighted the evolving and increasingly inclusive landscape of the Grammys.

In her speech, Roan also emphasized the need for record labels to offer livable wages, health insurance, and protection for artists, especially those who are just starting out. She shared her personal experience of being signed as a minor and the difficulties she faced after being dropped by her label, including the struggle to find a job and afford health insurance during the pandemic. Roan's Grammy win and her powerful statements have sparked important conversations about the treatment of artists in the music industry and the need for greater inclusivity and support for LGBTQ+ individuals. Her courage in speaking out and her dedication to her community have solidified her status as a trailblazer.

3. Lady Gaga Releases New Music Video and Single During Commercial Break

In a move that only Lady Gaga could pull off, she premiered the music video for her new single “Abracadabra” during a commercial break at the 2025 Grammy Awards. The video, directed by Gaga herself, is a visual feast that blends avant-garde choreography with surreal visuals and a nod to vintage Hollywood glamour. The narrative unfolds with Gaga, portraying a character named Mayhem, challenging the audience to “dance or die,” setting the stage for an intense dance battle between light and darkness.

The song “Abracadabra” is the third single from her upcoming album Mayhem, set to release on March 7, 2025. The track has been described as a dance-pop anthem with electronic and house influences, featuring pulsating beats and hypnotic synths that harken back to her earlier works.

Gaga’s decision to debut the video during such a high-profile event underscores her flair for dramatic surprises and her ability to captivate audiences with her unique artistic vision. The premiere not only showcased her return to her pop roots but also set the stage for the release of Mayhem, building anticipation for what promises to be another groundbreaking chapter in her illustrious career.

2. Beyoncé’s Historic Country Album of the Year and Album of the Year Win

Beyoncé’s historic Grammy victory at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards marked a groundbreaking moment in music history as she became the first Black woman to win Best Country Album for Cowboy Carter and Album of the Year. The audience erupted in thunderous applause as she took the stage, joined by her daughter, Blue Ivy, whose pride was palpable. Clutching her Grammy, Beyoncé took a moment to absorb the weight of the moment before addressing the world.

"Wow, I really was not expecting this," she began, visibly emotional. But while the win may have been a surprise to some, its significance was undeniable. This was more than just another Grammy for the most-awarded artist in Recording Academy history—this was a cultural shift, a moment that rewrote country music’s legacy in real time.

Beyoncé's speech was a powerful tribute to the Black artists who paved the way yet were often erased from country music’s mainstream narrative. She directly acknowledged the trailblazers who had come before her, stating:

"I’d like to dedicate this award to all the pioneers who have come before me—those who have been overlooked in the country music industry for far too long. It’s been many, many years."

This moment resonated deeply, as country music has long been shaped by Black artists, from DeFord Bailey — the first Black musician to perform on the Grand Ole Opry — to Charley Pride, Linda Martell, Ray Charles, and Rhiannon Giddens, all of whom defied expectations and broke barriers. Beyoncé's recognition of these artists was not just gratitude—it was a statement. A demand for their legacy to be remembered, honored, and permanently woven into the fabric of country music history. The project blends classic outlaw country, blues, zydeco, folk, and even rock ‘n’ roll, reflecting the true roots of American music—roots deeply intertwined with Black history.

In her speech, she made it clear that she was not just dabbling in country music — she was fully claiming her space within it. She acknowledged that her journey into country was met with resistance, stating:

"This album was born out of a time when I felt unwelcome. But because of that, I did a deeper dive into the history of country music. And it was a beautiful journey. This is music that has always been a part of me, and it’s deeply rooted in my ancestry."

Her words cut through the long-standing narrative that country music is a whitewashed genre, shining a light on the truth—that it has always been a Black art form, too.

As she closed her speech, she left the world with a message of empowerment:

"Follow your passions, trust your heart, and always remember to bet on yourself."

1. Sabrina Carpenter’s Show-Stopping Performance

Sabrina Carpenter’s performance at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards on February 2, 2025, was a showstopper that left everyone talking. She kicked things off with “Espresso,” stepping onto the stage in a dazzling, sparkly tuxedo dress that screamed old Hollywood glamour. As the performance progressed, she switched to a corseted baby blue leotard adorned with jewels, adding a touch of showgirl flair. And just when you thought it couldn’t get more impressive, she tapped danced in Christian Louboutin heels, blending elegance with rhythmic precision. This dynamic routine not only highlighted her multifaceted talent but also underscored her growth as an artist. The performance was a testament to her ability to merge musicality with visual storytelling, leaving an indelible mark on the Grammy stage.

Beyond her captivating performance, Carpenter’s album “Short n’ Sweet” garnered critical acclaim, earning multiple nominations and winning Best Pop Vocal Album. She also secured the Best Pop Solo Performance award for “Espresso,” marking her first Grammy victories. These accolades reflect her dedication and the industry’s recognition of her artistic contributions.
