Selena Gomez teams up with Sephora for the ‘Make A Rare Impact’ campaign on World Mental Health Day – raising awareness and funds for youth mental health. Fans show their support for the initiative across social media.
Before you crash out! Take a mental health break!
In honor of World Mental Health Day (Oct. 10), Selena Gomez is once again raising awareness about the importance of mental health. As the founder of Rare Beauty and a fierce advocate for mental health, Gomez is encouraging fans to take a moment for themselves.
Gomez, who received her first Emmy nomination this year for Only Murders in the Building, shared in her interview with PEOPLE that balancing her work and personal life impacts her mental health.
"I just try to build [self-care] around moments I can take a break," she said, highlighting a recent trip to see her younger sister Gracie's soccer game. "My friends and family keep me sane."
This year's Gomez is teaming up with Sephora for the second annual Make A Rare Impact campaign, a collaboration aimed at spreading mental health awareness and raising funds for youth mental health services.
“We created the Rare Impact Fund before we created a single product, and it’s so rewarding to see it being a resource for people when they actually come to our community and seek help. I’m just really grateful. This is why I do it,” Gomez told the outlet.
Gomez's journey with Rare Beauty, which launched in 2020, has always been about more than just makeup. The brand’s mission is to celebrate individuality and self-acceptance which mirrors her own mental health advocacy.
“I’m so excited to release beauty products that not only feel great, but also celebrate what makes each of us rare,” Gomez said at the time of the brand's launch. “Makeup is something to enjoy, it’s not something you need. I want every person to feel beautiful exactly as they are.”
For World Mental Health Day, Sephora will donate 100% of Rare Beauty product sales both in-store and online to the Rare Impact Fund. This gesture continues Gomez's vision of making mental health care more accessible globally, particularly for youth.
Mental health continues to be a significant focus for many celebrities who are bravely using their platforms to destigmatize mental health struggles. Grammy-winning singer Adele opened up about her experience with postpartum depression in a 2016 Vanity Fair cover story, sharing the fears and inadequacies she felt after giving birth to her son Angelo.
“I had really bad postpartum depression after I had my son, and it frightened me,” she admitted.

Partnering with Mental Health America and BetterHelp, he shared his journey in a interview with The Associated Press, “It wasn’t until recent that I actually learned the importance of getting to the source of things that don’t make me feel great.”
Other stars like Alanis Morissette and Ariana Grande have spoken out about their own struggles, with Morissette sharing her battle with postpartum depression and Grande reflecting on her PTSD after the tragic bombing at her concert in 2017. Grande emphasized the importance of ending the stigma around mental health, stating, “Healing isn’t linear, fun, quick, or at all easy.”
Indian actress Deepika Padukone, too, has been a powerful advocate, revealing her personal battle with depression and founding The Live Laugh Love Foundation to raise awareness and support mental health in India.
Fans have taken to social media to express their excitement about supporting Rare Beauty’s cause. On TikTok, one user wrote, "WHAT AN INCREDIBLE DAY!!!!" while another commented, "Will be shopping today in support of this wonderful foundation!” Even the SophoriaAus + NZ account chimed in, with a Rare Beauty representative responding to an Australian follower, saying, "SEPHORA AUS + NZ is participating!” proving the global reach of this initiative.
