Sophie Turner has been candid about her life since her split from Joe Jonas, shedding light on the complexities of single motherhood —though not without some public confusion.

The Game of Thrones alum recently spoke to The Sunday Times about the challenges she’s faced while raising her two daughters, Willa, 4, and Delphine, 2, following her divorce from the Jonas Brothers singer. However, after her remarks stirred headlines, Turner took to social media to clarify she had been “widely misquoted.”

In the original interview, Turner, 28, shared insights about her portrayal of jewel thief and single mom Joan Hannington in the upcoming TV series Joan.

“If I hadn’t been a mother, I don’t know if I would have been able to bring the same energy that I did into it,” she said of the role. The actress connected her character’s struggles with her own experience, commenting on the challenge of single parenthood: “It’s such a struggle being a single mother. Joan doesn't go about it in the best way... but it is amazing to see her really fighting for her daughter.”

This statement was quickly picked up by outlets, sparking speculation about Turner’s personal experience as a single mom post-divorce. But just as fast as the rumors spread, Turner was quick to set the record straight.

In an Instagram story she explained, “I was talking about the character of Joan that I play and was not referring to myself, which is obvious from the original interview.” She added, “I’m very fortunate to have a lot of help around me, which is not the case for a lot of people. I applaud all single mothers doing it alone.”

The whirlwind around Turner’s comments highlights not only the pressures of being in the public eye, but also the ongoing fascination with her personal life since her split from Jonas. The former couple, who married in 2019, finalized their divorce earlier this month, one year after Jonas initially filed. Despite their breakup, the pair is committed to co-parenting their daughters.

Turner’s career continues to flourish even as she navigates this new chapter. Fans know her best as the fierce Sansa Stark from Game of Thrones, but her advocacy for mental health and women’s rights has also gained widespread attention. Her upcoming role in Joan promises to show yet another side of Turner, one that delves deep into the emotional complexity of motherhood, even if it's through a fictional lens.

While the media may have misinterpreted her words, Turner’s message remains clear: parenting – whether as a single mom or not –requires immense strength and support. With her characteristic grace, the award-winning actress continues to inspire, both on and off the screen.

As the A-lister said herself, "I applaud all single mothers doing it alone." And with her next role on the horizon, it’s clear Turner is ready to bring more of that strength to the characters she plays and the life she leads.
