The Backstreet Boys are publicly campaigning to headline the 2027 Super Bowl Halftime Show in Los Angeles, teasing the idea during their Into The Millennium residency at the Sphere in Las Vegas.

"What do you guys think? Backstreet Boys: 2027 Super Bowl Halftime," AJ McLean asked the crowd during the Feb. 11 show, according to a fan video obtained by TMZ.  "Let’s make it happen! I mean, why not? It’s in Los Angeles, it’s right down the street."

The five-piece band – McLean, Kevin Richardson, Howie Dorough, Nick Carter and Brian Littrell said they envision a nostalgic medley complete with coordinated outfits and ’90s-style staging. The group has been steadily raising their profile in connection to the Super Bowl. They appeared in two commercials aired during the 2026 Super Bowl (a T‑Mobile spot featuring "I Want It That Way"and a Coinbase karaoke ad for "Everybody (Backstreet’s Back)”), moves fans and industry observers say signal a deliberate push for halftime consideration.

Carter reflected on the band’s earlier Super Bowl history and their current ambitions, telling Entertainment Tonight that the group declined a halftime headliner offer in 2001 and instead performed the national anthem.

"At the time, we loved the Whitney Houston rendition of the national anthem. And for us, we got the choice and we passed on the halftime," Carter said. "It was a memorable experience for everyone, and I like to say we did a really good job at the national anthem."

Carter also spoke warmly of *NSYNC’s role in the 2001 halftime era, calling the period "a really beautiful time" and noting the band’s desire to be "a part of that story, of love and growth and just coming out of the dark." He suggested the emotional resonance of returning to that era is part of the appeal for both artists and audiences.

Industry chatter has included the possibility of a joint nostalgic moment with other late‑’90s acts.  McLean told E! News he’s keeping the door open to collaboration with *NSYNC as both groups navigate their post‑residency plans.

"They haven’t done something in over 22 years. We’re gonna keep doing what we do. No one knows what the future holds. We'll see what happens," he added.

Fan reaction has been overwhelmingly positive. Social feeds lit up after McLean's on‑stage pitch, with longtime supporters praising the idea. Many fans celebrated the nostalgia, expressing excitement for coordinated costumes, iconic choreography and potential surprise guests. Overall sentiment across social media appears strongly in favor, with fans signaling they’ll rally behind any official campaign to secure the halftime slot.

As the Backstreet Boys continue Into The Millennium in Las Vegas and maintain a high profile through national commercials, they are making clear they want the 2027 Super Bowl stage. Whether the NFL and halftime producers will oblige remains to be seen, but the band and their fans are already making their case loud and clear.
