Fandom Daily: What initially inspired you to start creating lip-sync videos on platforms like Musical.ly and TikTok, and did you ever expect to gain such a massive following?
Luca Schaefer-Charlton: "I remember the inspiration quite clearly. I must have been about 12 years-old and I had started to watch a lot of YouTube content just like everyone else. Then, one day, I became aware of Musical.ly and was hooked right away. I really connected with what I was seeing other people creating, and it all looked like fun. I wasted no time and started creating videos on Musical.ly right away. But not even in my wildest imagination did I think that I'd ever grow to where I am now."
Fandom Daily: Your tattoos have become part of your signature look—can you share the story behind some of them and how they reflect your personality?
Luca Schaefer-Charlton: "Each one of my tattoos has a story, but of course, some are more important to me than others because of their personal connection. I have a dove tattoo in memory of Nana, who died exactly a year ago, and I got my Betti Boop tattoo for my Omi, who passed when I was little. My Pokemon tattoos also mean a lot… I've got 3 of them."
Fandom Daily: How do you come up with new content ideas that resonate so well with your audience, and what's your process for keeping your videos fresh and entertaining?
Luca Schaefer-Charlton: "After creating content for so many years, the reality is that coming up with new content ideas can be a challenge, but it's a challenge that I embrace. I truly do enjoy this part of being a content creator. Sometimes, I will scroll for inspiration or motivation, but then I ensure that as much of my content as possible is spontaneous and authentic. I always try to stay relatable with my content and post my true emotions and feelings."
Fandom Daily: As someone who rose to fame at a young age, how have you balanced the pressures of social media with your personal life?
Luca Schaefer-Charlton: "I guess this has just become easier over the years as I have grown up. I really try not to take on too much pressure; otherwise, it could overwhelm me, and I've accepted that I have had to give up a lot of my privacy. I always stay true to who I am, and I remain authentic… so my supporters know that I am not putting on an act. This allows me to avoid much of the pressure that could overwhelm someone. I just hope that my attitude and genuine personality inspire others."
Fandom Daily: Your fanbase spans across the globe—what's the most memorable interaction you've had with one of your followers?
Luca Schaefer-Charlton: "For sure the most memorable experiences have taken place when I've attended events on the road. I've been able to meet my supporters all over the U.S. and even in Europe. In 2019, I was invited to join the Boys of Summer tour, and it was great. I can't single out one single experience. Suddenly, I had the opportunity to meet so many supporters face-to-face… everywhere from Seattle and Portland to Chicago and Houston. Nothing compares to that summer when it comes to fan interaction."
Fandom Daily: With so many TikTok stars evolving into other entertainment fields, have you considered branching out into acting, music, or other creative projects?
Luca Schaefer-Charlton: "I've considered everything and have dabbled in a few different things. Still just trying to find the right fit but I haven't ruled anything out. Spending so much time in L.A. means I am exposed to a variety of opportunities, and I'm leaning towards acting. I don't have anything big in the works this very moment, but I'm really focusing my energy towards landing a role on a reality tv show."
Fandom Daily: How has your content evolved since you first started on Musical.ly, and what changes in the social media landscape have impacted the way you approach your work?
Luca Schaefer-Charlton: "My content style and format has had to change and evolve as the platforms have evolved. And, of course, as I have gotten older, my supporters have matured as well. One really has to stay creative and continue to adapt to current trends. Sometimes, I will try to find a current concept that's doing well or that a lot of people are leaning into, and then I will try to find a way to put my little spin on it to make it my own. I started on Musical.ly but am now equally active on Snapchat and Instagram."
Fandom Daily: What do you think sets you apart from other TikTok creators, and how do you maintain that unique connection with your fans?
Luca Schaefer-Charlton:"I started off just being 'me,' and to this day, I still deliver content that shows my true self. Other than just creating and posting content, I always engage with my supporters in any way possible. I reply to questions and comments and livestream as much as my daily schedule allows."
Fandom Daily: What advice would you give to young creators trying to make a name for themselves on platforms like TikTok today?
Luca Schaefer-Charlton: "You have to enjoy what you are doing, and remember to stay authentic and genuine. To build a loyal following, you must be sure to post consistently. As hard as it is, try not to pay too much attention to the numbers because your numbers will always fluctuate up and down. Just keep posting and stay committed to yourself, as you are your own brand. And don't forget to engage and interact with your supporters and followers … so many creators overlook this."
