Brittany Cartwright opens up about her messy split from Jax Taylor, as fans rally behind her ahead of 'The Valley' reunion.
Nearly a year after Brittany Cartwright filed for divorce from Jax Taylor, the Vanderpump Rules alum is still legally married and fans are both shocked and frustrated on her behalf.
During a July 22 appearance on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen, Cartwright gave a candid update on her split from The Valley co-star, admitting that the divorce has yet to be finalized.
“We both didn’t send in our stuff at the right time,” she explained. “It’s a lot of stuff that happens.”
The couple missed their initial court date of July 21, but Cartwright remains hopeful the legal process will wrap up this fall.
“October 15 is the new date,” she shared, adding confidently, “and it’s going to happen.”
However, it’s not just the paperwork that’s messy, so is their current relationship. When Cohen asked how things stand between the two, Cartwright didn’t mince words.
“Horrible,” she said. “No trust whatsoever.”
The couple, who share a 4-year-old son, Cruz, have had a tumultuous year that played out in season 2 of The Valley. Taylor, 44, came under fire from both fans and castmates for his erratic and emotionally volatile behavior.
He later apologized publicly during a June 17 appearance on WWHL, saying: “I’m utterly embarrassed by my actions… Nobody should ever have to deal with, you know, verbal abuse from anybody. I’m really sorry that people had to see all that.”
In a statement to E! News on July 16, Taylor announced he would not be returning for season 3 of The Valley, citing his need to focus on sobriety and his mental health.
"After an incredibly challenging year and many honest conversations with my team and producers, I'll be stepping away from the next season of The Valley," Taylor tol the publication. "Right now, my focus needs to be on my sobriety, my mental health, and co-arenting. Taking this time is necessary for me to become the best version of myself – especially for our son, Cruz."
While some viewers applauded Taylor's accountability, the majority of Bravoholics are siding with Cartwright.
“Honestly, this is the best thing he could’ve done,” one fan wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “The show was becoming toxic with his behavior, and Brittany deserves peace.”
The speculation is widespread that Taylor's ongoing treatment and lack of urgency in filing the paperwork may have slowed down the divorce process, despite Cartwright's clear desire to move on. Still, with October 15 set as the new target date, fans are hoping the reality star will soon get the closure and freedom she deserves.
“I just want to see her happy,” a viewer shared on social media. “She’s been through so much and deserves a fresh start.”
As for what’s next? Fans are anxiously awaiting The Valley season 2 reunion, premiering Tuesday, July 29 at 8 p.m. ET on Bravo. While Taylor won’t be physically present for season 3, viewers are bracing for one last dramatic outburst. What’s your take on this situation?
