Now let’s get into the messy part – the changes.
The NFL trimmied down first-round pick time from 10 minutes to 8. Sounds small, but it’s chaos waiting to happen. Trades are already stressful – phones ringing, GMs panicking, deals falling apart at the last second. And now, they’ve gotta do all that in eight minutes? If a team pulls off a last-second trade, they don’t even get a fresh clock.
Pressure!
And if a team fumbles the clock? Oh, it gets embarrassing. Just ask the Minnesota Vikings from that infamous 2003 NFL Draft moment when they ran out of time and got leapfrogged. The Jacksonville Jaguars and Carolina Panthers said "thank you" and snatched better spots while Minnesota scrambled. Moral of the story: don’t play with that clock.
Let’s talk picks.
The Las Vegas Raiders are sitting pretty at No. 1, and all signs point to them grabbing Indiana QB Fernando Mendoza. If that happens, this could be considered a full-on reset moment for the franchise. But here’s where it gets tricky, this draft might not follow the usual script.
Top-five picks could go to non-"premium" positions, like running back Jeremiyah Love or safety Caleb Downs. Translation? Teams are drafting for impact, not just tradition.
Quarterback-wise, Mendoza is leading the pack, but keep your eye on names like Drew Allar and Garrett Nussmeier, because one thing about the NFL, somebody always rises and shakes the table.
Now let’s bring it home for the real ones – Chiefs Kingdom. The Kansas City Chiefs are walking into this draft with nine picks, including TWO in the first round (No. 9 and No. 29). Protecting Patrick Mahomes is always priority number one, but the defense? That’s where the conversation is getting loud.

Everybody knows we need help on that defensive line, another powerhouse to line up with Chris Jones and George Karlaftis would change everything. Wide receiver is still on the wishlist too, with names like Makai Lemon floating around, plus protection pieces like Kadyn Proctor if they wanna play it smart.
And don’t sleep on the long game, tight end Kenyon Sadiq has folks whispering as a future successor to Travis Kelce. Not saying it’s happening now, but the setup? Oh, could definitely be there.
Fan energy right now is exactly what you’d expect – half hype, half confusion, all opinions. Some are already calling picks like they’re on the payroll, others are just here for the chaos. At the end of the day, the 2026 NFL Draft is here, it’s about storylines, pressure, and setting the tone for the entire season.
