Sean “Diddy” Combs was sentenced to 50 months in prison on prostitution-related charges after being acquitted of sex trafficking and racketeering.
Sean “Diddy” Combs has been sentenced to more than four years (50 months) in federal prison after being convicted on prostitution-related charges, marking a massive downfall for the music mogul.
The sentencing came Friday (Oct.3) in a Manhattan courtroom, where family members, including Combs’ oldest daughter, broke down in tears as Judge Arun Subramanian handed down the decision, according to The New York Times. Combs was also fined $500,000 and will face five years of supervised release once his prison term is complete.
While prosecutors pushed for more than 11 years behind bars, the defense asked for just 14 months, pointing to his charitable work and emotional pleas from his children. The judge ultimately landed in the middle, though Combs will get credit for the year he’s already served since his September 2024 arrest.
The case has been one of the most closely watched celebrity trials in years. Though Combs was acquitted of the more serious charges of sex trafficking and racketeering, he was convicted of transporting women, including his ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura across state lines for prostitution.
Ventura, who has been the face of the prosecution, called Combs a “manipulative, power-hungry abuser” in a court filing earlier this week, saying he has no interest in changing.
After the verdict, Ventura’s attorney Douglas Wigdor said the sentence reflects the “serious offenses” Combs committed, adding that while no punishment can undo the trauma, it validates the pain of survivors who came forward.
Judge Subramanian praised both Ventura and another woman who testified, calling them “brave survivors” who gave power to countless women who felt silenced.
But the legal battles for Combs are far from over. New lawsuits continue to pile up, including fresh accusations from his former stylist alleging abuse, trafficking, and violence. Combs has denied those claims.
Inside the courtroom, Combs’ lawyers played a 12-minute video of him mentoring kids, raising money for education, and spending time with family. The 54-year-old appeared to cry as the montage rolled, but the judge noted that the evidence of abuse outweighed the image of a man “giving back.”
For now, the once-celebrated mogul will serve out his sentence in federal custody.
