Cameras are rolling again! What Bravo caught of Amanda and West in NYC will ruin more than just friendships.
Bravo has quietly picked its cameras back up for Summer House spinoff In the City amid the whirlwind over Amanda Batula and West Wilson’s romance, but chose not to resume on Summer House itself, Bravo chairman Frances Berwick told The Ankler.
"In the City, which launches in a couple weeks, you’ll see in the first episode we have a new scene that we shot with a couple of the cast members," Berwick told the outlet. "So, we did pick up [cameras] there but we just didn’t feel like that was the right thing to do on Summer House."
Berwick added the network’s pause on Summer House came down to concern for cast wellbeing.
"It does come back to the emotional well‑being of the cast members, and we didn’t think that was right. We did take a beat before we covered that. And that was obviously in the reunion last week; as everyone now knows, we taped the reunion last week," she added.
The timing makes sense. In the City , was filmed mainly outside the Hamptons and features Amanda, her estranged husband Kyle Cooke, Lindsay Hubbard and familiar Summer House faces navigating NYC life. Season 1 wrapped before Amanda and West went public, but fans expect the fallout from Amanda and Kyle’s split (filmed in January) and Amanda’s new romance with West to figure heavily into what airs.
Amanda and West confirmed their relationship publicly on March 31 in a joint Instagram statement, acknowledging the surprise and the need for privacy.
"It was never our intention to purposely hide anything… Given the complicated relationship dynamics involved and the scrutiny that comes with being on a reality show, we needed a little space to process things privately before speaking on it."
They emphasized the relationship grew from a longtime friendship and said they wanted to be careful because their choices affect others.
The announcement made waves across the Bravoverse. Kyle, West’s ex Ciara Miller, and other Summer House cast members weighed in, and fans will also see the cast tackle the mess at the Season 10 reunion. Audio of the reunion leaked soon after taping.
Bravo said an internal investigation found the leak came from an unauthorized production-side recording and that no cast members were involved, warning against sharing any more improperly obtained audio.
Fan of View: The move to roll cameras on In the City feels both strategic and inevitable. After the Scandoval era (Tom Sandoval/Raquel Leviss), viewers demanded full coverage of the next major storyline, and Amanda/West is exactly the kind of hot drama that drives watercooler chats and premiere buzz. Yes, some of us are a little West–Amanda fatigued already, but many more are chomping at the bit to see how this all plays out on screen, especially with reunion teases and the network directly addressing leaks and cast welfare.
In the City premieres Tuesday, May 19 at 9 p.m. ET on Bravo and new Summer House episodes continue Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET.
