Drake shook up Toronto with a $10,000 prize, a female winner, and a lookalike contest that left fans wondering what’s next.
Drake has once again shown why he’s not just a global superstar but also one of the most connected artists to his fanbase.
The 38-year-old rapper took the internet by storm over the weekend after surprising fans with an epic gesture: adding a $10,000 cash prize to a Drake lookalike contest hosted in his hometown of Toronto.
The event, organized by Casuals Bakery, took place on Saturday, December 14, and quickly became the talk of the town after the award-winning artist slid into the bakery’s Instagram DMs just days before the competition.
“I’m adding 10 bands to the look alike contest … as the main prize,” the “God’s Plan” hitmaker wrote in a direct message that the bakery later shared with its followers on Thursday, December 12.
The bakery owner couldn’t contain their excitement, posting a screenshot of the exchange alongside the caption, “I can barely type, and a whole shock went through my body. But yes this is true and real & I hope the Drake doppelgängers ready 🔥 LETSSSSSSSS GOOOOOOO.”
The post immediately went viral, building even more anticipation for the competition.
“Mr. champagnepapi has entered the chat !! 🔥🔥” wrote a follower. “This is crazy!!!!!” quipped another.
When Saturday rolled around, the bakery was packed with Drake doppelgängers and fans eager to witness the action. Contestants showed off their best attempts to emulate the rapper’s signature looks, from his beard to his fashion choices and even his hairstyles.
Ultimately, a female fan stole the show – and the $10,000 prize. She wowed the judges with her creative look, which included pigtails reminiscent of Drake’s viral October hairstyle and a drawn-on beard. A video capturing her big win, shared by the bakery on social media, has since garnered thousands of views, with fans praising her originality and humor.
Drake’s involvement in the Toronto competition is part of a growing trend of celebrity lookalike contests, which are becoming popular worldwide as a way for superfans to connect and celebrate their shared admiration for their favorite stars. Earlier this year, Timothée Chalamet made headlines when he unexpectedly crashed his own lookalike contest in New York City’s Washington Square Park.
Events honoring stars like Zayn Malik, Harry Styles, Paul Mescal, and Glen Powell have also drawn crowds, proving that these gatherings offer more than just a chance to win prizes – they create a sense of community and belonging. For many, these contests serve as a way to pay tribute to the celebrities they admire while bonding with fellow fans over shared interests.
