After four years of marriage, Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner have called it quits. The pop star, 34, filed for divorce from the British actress, 27, in early September in Miami Dade County, Florida. According to court documents obtained by ET, "the marriage between the parties is irretrievably broken." 

The split came as a shocking surprise to fans since Turner was previously spotted (Aug. 12) supporting her ex-husband at the opening night of the Jonas Brothers nationwide tour in New York. Despite the public appearance, a close source told ET that the two had been preoccupied with their lives for approximately six months. 

"Sophie and Joe have been spending more time apart recently," wrote the blind item. "Joe has been busy on tour and spending a lot of time with his family. Joe has also been caring for their kids a lot." 

Following the rapid-fire rumors, the couple turned to social media to confirm the split in a joint statement. 

"After four wonderful years of marriage, we have mutually decided to amicably end our marriage," said the statement on Instagram. "There are many speculative narratives as to why but, truly this is a united decision, and we sincerely hope that everyone can respect our wishes for privacy for us and our children." 

After a short year together, the hitmaker did not "Hesitate" to pop the question in 2017. The two lovebirds had an impromptu wedding in Las Vegas, but later tied the knot during an elegant ceremony in southern France. It wasn't long until Jonas and Turner welcomed (2020) their first child together, Willa. Most recently, they had a second child, a baby girl. The ex-couple have yet to reveal the name of their youngest, as they tend to keep their personal life private.

Joe Jonas Officially Files For Divorce – September 1, 2023 

The chart-topping artist was the one who initiated the divorce. After filing paperwork in sunny Florida, TMZ issued a blind item, including an anonymous source confirming the news. The article reported, "Joe had his people contact and consult with at least 2 L.A. area divorce lawyers, and he is on the cusp of filing divorce docs to end his marriage with Sophie." The singer attempted to keep the split hush-hush by posting a black and white picture of himself wearing his wedding ring. The photo squashed the speculations, but not for long. 

The Ex-Couple Issued a Joint Statement – Sept.6, 2023 

The petition filed by Joe Jonas was released in early September. The court document states that "the marriage between the parties is irretrievably broken." 

Since the two have children together, the paperwork also highlights the custody agreement. "It is in the best interests of the minor children that the parties have shared parental responsibility," said the report, obtained by TODAY. Jonas and Turner placed fan theories and rumors to rest by issuing a joint statement (September 6) confirming the divorce. 

Joe Jonas Allegedly Caught Sophie Turner On Their Ring Camera 

According to TMZ, the father of two caught Sophie Turner saying or doing something on a ring camera. Multiple sources close to Jonas told the publication that the footage pushed the vocalist to file for divorce. The incident has yet to be confirmed by Jonas' camp, and the footage was not released to the public.

Joe Jonas Addresses The Divorce At Jonas Brothers Concert – September 9, 2023

The frontman addressed the public divorce at their Dodger Stadium show in Los Angeles alongside Nick Jonas and Kevin Jonas. The speech that caught concert-goers off guard, was directed towards the tabloids that have been feeding off their relationship and publishing misleading information. 

"I just want to say, if you don't hear it from these lips, don't believe it. Okay?" said the singer-songwriter, without his ring on. "Thank you, everyone, for the love and support to me and my family. I love you guys." 

Sophie Turner and Taylor Swift Spotted Together In NYC – September 19, 2023 

The Game of Thrones star has been quiet since the divorce news surfaced. While Jonas has been speaking out about the issue, she was spotted grabbing dinner with Taylor Swift in Manhattan. The girlfriends were photographed interlocked outside Temple Bar on Lafayette Street. The paparazzi photos instantly went viral, considering Swift casually dated Jonas in 2008. 

Sophie Turner Sues Joe Jonas – Sept. 21, 2023 

Following the girl's night out with Taylor Swift, Turner filed a lawsuit against her ex-husband. According to court documents, Turner has demanded her children be returned back to their permanent residence in England. The lawsuit claims, "[Jonas] refuses to return the passports to [Turner] and refuses to send the children home to England." 

The report continued, "The parties' agreed plan was that when the mother finished filming on September 14, 2023, she would travel to New York to collect the children and return home to England. The parties' plan was for the mother to spend a week with the family in New York and then return home to England with the children on September 20." 

The document also confirmed that Turner found out about the divorce via the media.

Joe Jonas Responds to Sophie Turner's Allegations – September 21, 2023

Hours after Sophie Turner filed the lawsuit, Joe Jonas' team released a statement to PEOPLE regarding their children and her claims. 

"After multiple conversations with Sophie, Joe initiated divorce proceedings in Florida, as Florida is the appropriate jurisdiction for the case," said the statement. "Sophie was aware that Joe was going to file for divorce. The Florida Court has already entered an order that restricts both parents from relocating the children. Sophie was served with this order on September 6, 2023, more than two weeks ago." 

Jonas' team continued, "Joe and Sophie had a cordial meeting this past Sunday in New York, when Sophie came to New York to be with the kids. They have been with her since that meeting. Joe's impression of the meeting was that they had reached an understanding that they would work together towards an amicable co-parenting setup. This is an unfortunate legal disagreement about a marriage that is sadly ending. When language like 'abduction' is used, it is misleading at best, and a serious abuse of the legal system at worst. The children were not abducted."
