'The Paper' is a brand-new mockumentary comedy set in the world of 'The Office,' premiering this fall on Peacock.
Peacock announced Monday (May 12) that The Paper, a new mockumentary comedy set in the universe of The Office, will premiere this September on the streaming platform.
The series follows the same documentary crew that famously chronicled life at Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch for nine seasons. However, this time, they’ve moved to Toledo, Ohio, to capture the chaos at a struggling local newspaper called The Truth Teller.
According to Peacock, the new series centers on the “eager publisher trying to revive it,” offering fans a fresh take on the workplace comedy format that helped define a generation of TV.
The Paper was officially unveiled during Peacock’s annual upfront presentation in New York City, where networks preview upcoming programming for advertisers. Stars Domhnall Gleeson, Oscar Nunez, and Sabrina Impacciatore took the stage to promote the show and share a first-look clip.
Gleeson described the series as being about “underdog characters that are banding together to keep journalism alive,” a premise that already has longtime fans of The Office itching with curiosity and hesitation.
The Office co-creator Greg Daniels who developed The Paper alongside Michael Koman. The two serve as executive producers, joined by The Office alumni Ricky Gervais, Stephen Merchant, Howard Klein, Ben Silverman, and Banijay Americas.
While Nunez’s casting has sparked excitement, particularly among fans eager for callbacks to the original series, it remains unclear if he’ll reprise his role as accountant Oscar Martinez or play a new character altogether.
Gleeson, known for his roles in About Time and Star Wars, leads the new ensemble, while The White Lotus standout Impacciatore adds another layer of intrigue. Their onstage appearance at the Peacock event hinted at a dynamic workplace filled with quirky personalities and high-stakes newsroom drama, wrapped in the same dry, observational humor that made The Office a classic.
Still, fan response has been mixed. While some are excited about a fresh mockumentary in a new setting, others took to social media to share their Fan Of View.
“If Michael Scott isn’t in it, we don’t want it,” one user wrote, while another posted, “This is either about to be really good or really forgettable.”

The sentiment reflects the high expectations that come with revisiting one of television’s most beloved formats, especially when tied to a series with such a loyal fandom.
Rather than attempting to extend the original story or reboot the series with familiar characters, The Paper opts to expand the world The Office built by shifting focus entirely. With Daniels and Koman at the helm and a promising cast, Peacock is betting that the new show will strike a balance between nostalgia and originality.
