The Off Campus fandom just got hit with some heartbreaking news.

Actress Mika Abdalla and fiancé Jake Short have officially called it quits, ending their engagement roughly one year after the couple announced they were taking the next step in their relationship.

"Due to recent interest in Mika’s personal life, it would feel remiss to not address that her and Jake are no longer together," Mika’s representative shared in a statement to Us Weekly.

According to the rep, the former couple remains on friendly terms, continues to support one another, and is asking fans for privacy and respect during this time.

For longtime followers of the pair, the news came as a genuine shock.

Mika and Jake’s love story felt straight out of Hollywood. The actors met while filming Sex Appeal in 2021, blending onscreen chemistry with a real-life romance that quickly won over fans. In 2025, Jake popped the question.

Jake’s manager, Brian Medavoy, was even cheering on the couple. Following their engagement, he turned to social media to weigh in on their romance and share a sweet congratulatory message.

“An awesome day yesterday celebrating the next chapter for my longtime client, Jake Short, and his fiancée Mika Abdalla,” he wrote in May of 2025.

However, the sudden breakup has fans split. Naturally, theories are already swirling online. While there is no confirmed reason behind the breakup, some fans have speculated that the relationship may have shifted amid Mika’s rapid  rise following the breakout success of Amazon’s Off Campus.

The actress has quickly become one of the internet’s newest obsessions, with viewers falling for her humor, charm, and undeniable "girl-next-door" appeal. Her portrayal of Allie Hayes turned her into a breakout star almost overnight.

And with growing fame comes intense fan investment.

Some corners of the fandom have already begun fantasy-casting a real-life romance between Mika  and her Off Campus co-star Stephen Kalyn, who plays her onscreen love interest, Dean Di Laurentis. Fans have praised their chemistry and openly admitted they’d love to see fiction become reality.

But many viewers are also drawing an important line.

Stephen is happily engaged to his longtime partner, Victoria Lovatsis. He  has reportedly been with Victoria since 2012. As excitement around Off Campus continues to grow, some fans are reminding others that strong onscreen chemistry does not equal a real-life romance, and respecting real relationships matters.
