Obsession is the new horror movie from Focus Features and director Curry Barker (known for Milk & Serial) that audiences are already fawning over, some labelling it as the "best horror film of the year," in a year where many powerful horror films are coming out, such as Backrooms, Hokum, Send Help, and many more, each with their own creative plots and new ways to scare and thrill audiences.

Obsession follows protagonist Bear (Michael Johnston), who purchases a "toy" that he wishes for his childhood crush (Inde Navarrette) to love him, leading to supernatural happenings. 

Fans are already leaving raving reviews, with an X user posting, "OBSESSION is excellent! It’s a frighteningly intense film that will make you think twice about ever making a wish again.  It’s ambitious, full of nonstop tension and relentless in the best way. Curry Barker proves he’s a master of shock and suspense, & Navarrette is unforgettable."

Even acclaimed filmmakers such as Jason Blum are praising this film and Barker, as Blum was quoted saying, "I saw him in Milk & Serial a long time ago & have kept an eye on him ever since. We have his next movie [with Blumhouse]. Hopefully, we'll do about 100 with him!"

Barker is one of many recent filmmakers who started as online comedians. Barker is most known for his online comedy duo That's a Bad Idea, which features various horror and sci-fi comedy shorts. Other recent filmmakers who have spawned from online presences include Please Don't Destroy and Nirvanna The Band.
