'Ahsoka' Season 2 was announced for a 2027 release, four years after the first season debuted. Fans feel today's streaming model allows longer waits with less TV to watch at the end.
At Disney's Upfront presentation (May 12), it was announced that Ahsoka Season 2 will arrive in "early" 2027, nearly four years after the first.
"This season, the battles are bigger and the stakes are higher," lead actress Rosario Dawson said at the presentation.
While this sounds exciting, fans are not pleased, feeling that four years between seasons is far too long. Not only that, but the first season of Ahsoka had only eight episodes that were roughly 35 -55 minutes long. Assuming the second season follows suit, that's not a lot of television after a four year wait.
4 years between seasons for 8 episodes streaming really destroyed television pacing

Imagine Ahsoka fans surviving off cameos and trailers until 2027
This increased gap between seasons is nothing new, in fact it seems to be the trend amongst shows in recent years. Tentpole series such as Stranger Things, Wednesday, and Severence have all had multi year waits between seasons, and all had roughly 8-10 episodes each.
Compare this to a series like the X-Files which released seasons yearly over the course of its initial nine season run, each with 22-24 episodes. The fact of the matter is that television operates under a different formula nowadays. When cable was king, TV shows aimed to reach the 100 episodes threshold to enter syndication. Since television is by and large viewed on streaming services nowadays, syndication isn't necessarily the goal anymore, it's to get more subscribers.
Unfortunately, a 22-episode series filled with movie-level CGI is simply not feasible and would take an unreasonably long time to produce. Fewer episodes seems to be the trade off.
There is also a more Star Wars-specific reason for the delay. Ahsoka creator and season 1 writer, Dave Filoni, has recently been promoted to the president and COO of Lucasfilm, Star Wars' main production company. Between this change, and working heavily on the upcoming theatrical, The Mandalorian and Grogu,he's most likely had his hands tied as of late.
Then of course there is the story, which Filoni teased would involve an epic space battle between the villainous Admiral Thrawn and Rebels mainstay, Admiral Ackbar. More space battles means more time needed for animators.

As frustrating as a long wait is, there is still some some positives to be excited about.
For one, a classic Star Wars space battle would be much welcomed, since this aspect of the franchise has been limited in Disney's slate of shows/movies. It has also been confirmed that Hayden Christensen would reprise his role of Anakin Skywalker, which is a huge plus for prequel fans.
At the end of the day, the Star Wars fandom needs a win. Let's hope that the wait is worth it. Let us know your Fan of View below or by sending us a message on social media @fandomdaily_.
