The star-studded cast flocked to the Big Apple to partake in PaleyFest NY. The beloved crew sat down for a candid panel for superfans and asked burning questions about their must-watch series.
The star-studded cast of Somebody Somewhere made its way to the third night (Oct. 18) of Paley Fest NY, and Fandom Daily got an exclusive first look at the first two episodes of the third and final season.
During the spectacular evening, superfans had the opportunity to get to know the cast and the creators behind the comedy-drama. Directly after the screening, Paley Fest hosted an engaging panel with Bridget Everett [Sam Miller], Writer and Executive Producer Jeff Hiller [Joel], Mary Catherine Garrison [Tricia Miller], Murray Hill [Fred Rococo], Tim Bagley [Brad], Hannah Bos Co-creator, Writer, and Executive Producer and Paul Thureen, Co-creator, Writer, and Executive Producer.
The first two episodes are a rollercoaster of emotions. We laughed out loud, wiping a tear or two (just wait for the musical number in episode 302), and smirked at just how relatable these characters are.
We continued to watch Miller navigate life in a small Kansas town, where the real-life Bridget Everett grew up herself. However, this third and final season feels different. The emotions and relationships are just as raw and relatable, but the growth that we are already seeing in the first two episodes really gets you rooting for these characters in a different way.
Joel is moving in with his boyfriend, Fred is on a diet, Tricia is building her girl boss empire and Sam is considering a furry friend. This all came full circle when Everett confirmed during the panel that the tagline for the season is "Groth Against All Odds." She continued to explain how the theme is intertwined into her specific role and how fans will learn to understand the shift in the character development, "everyone else's change and deciding to make small steps."
As it always is, Somebody Somewhere is an easy watch. We have a feeling we'll look back on the series much like we did the early days of Schitts Creek and say, "Why aren't more people watching this show?"
This series has the perfect recipe for a comfort show – the characters feel like people you know, the setting feels like your hometown with the perfect balance of cringe and familiarity, it taps relatable topics that are rarely seen on screen, like having a relationship with God as someone in the LGBTQ community or dating after divorce, and it even has a few Cabaret numbers.
Beyond the loveable characters and plot, the cast's performance is truly remarkable. While each is so uniquely talented, the chemistry they have with one another is really what makes this series special. During the panel, we learned that many of the cast had pre-existing relationships before starring in Somebody Somewhere, which we think helped portray this authentic chemistry.
For example, Everett and Garrison were roommates for years in New York City. Even Everett and Hill performed together at Joe's Pub. While listening to them talk about their friendships with one another, love radiated from the stage, and you can tell how every one of them appreciated the village they built together to get to that point.
While their time on Somebody Somewhere may have come to an end, we are eagerly waiting to hear what their next role will be. Season 3 of Somebody Somewhere premiered last night (Oct. 27) on HBO and Max. The highly anticipated episode will be available to watch on Nov. 2.
