In response to the ongoing crisis, the Critics Choice Awards, set for Jan. 12, has been postponed until Jan. 26.
As wildfires continue to rage across Los Angeles, Jamie Lee Curtis and her family are stepping up to help those affected.
The Oscar-winning actress,66, flew to New York City before the fires started. She appeared on The Tonight Show Wednesday (Jan 9) and used the highly popular platform to spread awareness about the ongoing disaster.
“The entire city of Pacific Palisades is burning,” stressed Curtis. “It’s f–king gnarly. It’s just a catastrophe. In California, obviously there have been horrific fires in many places, this is literally where I live – everything. The market I shop in, the schools my kids go to, friends – many, many, many friends now – have lost their homes.”
The actress, who had been in New York City promoting her SAG Award-nominated film The Last Showgirl, returned to L.A. on Jan. 9 to find her home safe. Curtis, her husband, Christopher Guest, and their daughters Annie and Ruby are pledging $1 million through their Family Foundation to support victims of the disaster.
Curtis is in touch with local leaders, including Governor Gavin Newsom, Mayor Karen Bass, and Senator Adam Schiff, to make sure the generous donation is directed where it will have the biggest impact.
The beloved actress turned to social media today, (Jan. 9) to give an update on her contribution and how she will continue to lend a helping hand to her community.
"As the fire still rages on and @calfire @losangelesfiredepartment and all the available first responders and agencies involved in fighting fire and saving lives are still hard at work and neighbors and friends are banding together to save each other, my husband and I and our children have pledged $1 million from our Family Foundation to start a fund of support for our great city and state and the great people who live and love there," she explained.
Her followers flocked to the comments to praise her act of kindness and to spark more conversation around the horrific tragedy.
“Jamie you are an absolute champion and cheerleader for compassion,” wrote a fan. “You are truly walking the walk. I’m inspired by your grace and service. Thank you,” said another.
Several celebrities, including Billy Crystal, Anna Faris, Leighton Meester, and Paris Hilton, have already lost their homes in the fires.
