Kevin Federline is making headlines with his upcoming memoir You Thought You Knew, in which he shares his perspective on some of the most infamous moments in his ex-wife Britney Spears' life – including the 2007 head-shaving incident.

Federline, 47, recalls a "bizarre" night outside his Tarzana, California home when Spears, freshly discharged from rehab, allegedly showed up shouting incoherently at the gate, repeatedly demanding, "LET. ME. IN."

"She started climbing the front gate," Federline writes, per an excerpt obtained by E! News. "I stayed inside with the kids, trying to keep things calm. I couldn't stand to see her like this."

He adds that security turned Spears away for the safety of their then-toddlers, Sean Preston and Jayden James, saying, "It was the right thing to do… I couldn't let her see them. They wouldn't have understood why their mom was looking and acting so bizarrely, and I didn't want to scare them."

According to Federline, Spears then went to a salon, where she reportedly grabbed clippers and shaved her own head before an infamous encounter with paparazzi. This is now referred to as the so-called "umbrella incident."

While Federline frames these moments as a chaotic reflection of Spears' state at the time, the pop star has previously explained her actions in her 2023 memoir, The Woman in Me. She wrote that shaving her head was a way to reclaim agency over her body after years of intense public scrutiny, as well as a reaction to postpartum depression and the stress of her divorce.

"I'd been eyeballed so much growing up… Shaving my head and acting out were my ways of pushing back," Spears shared.

However, Federline's book release has prompted swift criticism from Spears and her team. A spokesperson recently told Page Six, "With news from Kevin's book breaking, once again he and others are profiting off her, and sadly, it comes after child support has ended with Kevin. All she cares about are her kids, Sean Preston and Jayden James, and their well-being during this sensationalism. She detailed her journey in her memoir."

Spears herself took to Instagram to condemn the memoir.

"The constant gaslighting from ex-husband is extremely hurtful and exhausting. I have always pleaded and screamed to have a life with my boys… I have pride, too. From now on, I will let them know when I am available. Trust me, those white lies in that book, they are going straight to the bank, and I am the only one who genuinely gets hurt here."

Fans in the Britney ARMY have expressed outrage over Federline's claims, calling them opportunistic and a clear attempt to remain in the spotlight.

"It's obvious Kevin is speaking out now for attention. While the details are shocking, it's upsetting to hear him profit from moments Britney has spent years healing from. She suffered under her conservatorship, and fans are right to side with her team. Kevin is profiting off her pain while she focuses on her kids and reclaiming her life," wrote a fan on social media.

The ARMY highlights that Britney's memoir already provided a deeply personal account of her struggles, and they are frustrated that Federline's narrative seems aimed more at publicity than truth.

"Britney has been through enough," one fan said on Instagram. "She deserves respect, not exploitation."

Federline's memoir, set to release on October 21, promises further revelations about his time with Spears, including claims about their marriage, co-parenting, and alleged incidents prior to their divorce. Will you be reading? Let us know your Fan of View below.
