Lily Rose is in the midst of an exciting new chapter in her career, one that's taking her sound to new heights. After a breakthrough that's seen her become a rising force in country music, she's now evolving her artistry in ways that are both refreshing and boundary-pushing.

Fandom Daily had the opportunity to catch up with the singer-songwriter to discuss her latest track, "I Know What I Want," a banger that was released in late February. Since the drop, excitement has continued to build around her genre-defying sound, and it's clear that fans should gear up for one of her most exciting chapters yet.

"I feel like this song represents everything I've been working toward," Rose exclusively told Fandom Daily. "It's one of my favorite songs I've put out in a long time. Fans have been quick to embrace it – dancing, creating videos, and vibing to its beat. It's been amazing to watch fans connect with it," she adds, noting the overwhelming positive reaction to the song.

The electrifying hit is soaked with hip-hop beats but still has Rose's signature country-pop flare, a twist that her nationwide fandom has grown fond of. While many members of her community might think that this song was created with intent, Rose claims otherwise.

"I Know What I Want" was far from planned. It was born out of an impromptu late-night songwriting session on the road while touring with Cole Swindell and Dylan Scott. With her voice brimming with enthusiasm, Rose recalled the moment her fellow songwriter Taylor Phillips sang the attention-grabbing hook. Rose penned the lyrics alongside Phillips, Andy Albert, Emily Weisband, Jaxson Free, and Paul DiGiovanni, who also serves as the producer on the track.

"We were just hanging out on the bus, having a few drinks, and then Taylor Phillips started singing 'I know what I want and I don't want you.' We all immediately knew we had something special," Rose explained. "We wrote pretty much the first verse, the second verse, and a little bit of the chorus. It was such a drunk happening with no inspiration. I know for a fact every single person is either married or in a relationship. None of us are going through a breakup."

The track is bold and a no-nonsense breakup anthem. It's all about reclaiming self-worth and setting boundaries with a toxic ex. The razor-sharp lyrics describe someone that has been put through the wringer – lied to, hurt, and possibly abandoned. Now, that person has clarity. It touches upon emotional manipulation, growth, closure, and most importantly, standing your ground. "I Know What I Want" is made for listeners who've finally had enough and are ready to move forward.

At the time of the casual jam session, Rose did not realize that this unapologetic anthem would define her next era. This song showcases her musical versatility, as it is one of her most hip-hop-influenced tracks. Although she experiments with her sound within each verse, she maintains true to herself and her distinct country-pop twang.

"I don't want to be pigeonholed into one sound," she explains. "I want to keep pushing boundaries and taking my music in new directions."

Hailing from Atlanta, where hip-hop is deeply embedded in the local culture, Rose has always had a unique ability to mix country with other genres – creating a fresh and innovative sound.

"This song has that vibe of ‘180 (Lifestyle)' by Morgan Wallen," she says, referencing Wallen's own blend of country and hip-hop. "We're not doing trap beats, but you can definitely hear the hip-hop influence. We have songs touching everything from pop-rock to pure country storytelling. It's been fun to experiment with different sounds and find new ways to express myself," Rose added, teasing what's to come in the near future.

A major part of this new era for Rose is her newfound independence. After years of being signed to a label, she's now charting her own course as an independent artist. Rose did not hesitate to reflect on the new profound freedom that comes with taking control of her career. This creative autonomy has opened the door to exploring her full range of artistic possibilities.

"I feel like for the first time, I'm really able to make decisions for myself," she explains. "Being independent has been incredible. I can trust my gut and release the music I'm truly passionate about. There's no one telling me what I should or shouldn't do, and that's been really freeing. I know my fans will relate to this new music because it's real. It's me being open and vulnerable, and I think they're going to connect with that."

Looking to the future, there's no shortage of exciting things on the horizon. With more music already recorded and a tour in the works, Rose's creative drive shows no signs of slowing down.  Her tour promises to be an electrifying experience for her fans, and "I Know What I Want" is sure to be a standout moment.
