"I Had Some Help" serves as the first musical offering from Post Malone's upcoming country debut album. This project will arrive this year.
The long-awaited collaboration has finally arrived and taken over the pop culture realm. Post Malone and Morgan Wallen have officially joined forces for "I Had Some Help," a buzz-worthy track destined to dominate the charts. The pair released the duet on Friday, May 10.
Their upbeat track, 'I Had Some Help,' made a staggering impact on its release day, amassing a total of 15.9 million global Spotify streams. This feat shattered the record for most streams in a single day by an all-male collaboration across any genre – a testament to the duo's immense popularity.
In the uptempo country smash, the duo sings about a breakup and expresses their desire for their partners to take more responsibility for the end of the relationship. Ultimately, they conclude that the breakup wasn't all their fault; there was help in the ending.
Throughout the song, they sing, "I had some help / It ain't like I can make this kinda mess all by myself / Don't act like you ain't help me pull that bottle off the shelf / Been deep in every weekend if you couldn't tell."
The song was released, and mixed reviews from fans started flooding onto social media. Some took to X to declare the song "the greatest country song ever written," several encouraging the artists to do an entire album together. However, most had something negative to say about the track.
Post Malone, born in upstate New York but raised in Texas, has been dabbling in country music for quite some time. Although Malone is a hip-hop hitmaker, he never hesitates to tap into his country roots.
While his musical journey has primarily traversed the realms of pop, rap, and R&B, he's been steadily delving into his country roots. His collaboration with Amazon Music resulted in a unique cover of Brad Paisley's 'I'm Gonna Miss Her.' More notably, he graced the Stagecoach stage with a set of classic country songs, surprising the audience with appearances by Sara Evans, Brad Paisley, and Dwight Yoakam. His genre-bending abilities were further recognized when he was chosen to perform alongside HARDY and Wallen at the CMA Awards, covering a Joe Diffie track.
While his origins within music have been mostly throughout pop, rap, and R&B, the singer-songwriter has been evolving and exploring his country roots throughout.
According to a press release, the new single will be featured on Malone's debut country album, which is due this year. If the project has any taste of what Malone's impact on the genre has, we're in store for an incredible project.
As we wait for a full album, Malone has collaborated with several others, including Taylor Swift and Beyoncé. Malone appeared on Swift's "Fortnight" from her recent album release, The Tortured Poets Department. Additionally, he appeared on Beyonce's record-breaking Cowboy Carter album on the song "Levii's Jeans."
As Malone enters the country music space, the industry continues to welcome the cross-genre artist. The genre's future is strong and bright, as he proves that creating an impact within it takes time.
