Morgan Wallen's sentencing could significantly impact his career and the One Night At A Time Tour.
Morgan Wallen let the liquor talk, and now he's paying his dues.
The country hitmaker found himself in trouble with the law last spring when he was arrested for allegedly throwing a chair off the roof of Eric Church's bar, Chief's, in downtown Nashville. The chair crashed approximately three feet away from law enforcement on the street.
Wallen was taken into custody but was released on a $12,500 bond. The "One Thing At A Time" singer had his first court appearance on August 15. However, his attorneys successfully filed for a continuance, pushing the court date to mid-December.
Now, new information reveals significant updates in his case, and he is facing serious charges – three felony counts of assault with a deadly weapon, reckless endangerment, and a misdemeanor for disorderly conduct.
According to Life & Style Magazine, his lawyers are attempting to negotiate a plea deal to avoid jail time and get strict probation instead. However, prosecutors are reportedly determined not to let Wallen escape severe consequences due to his celebrity status.
"Morgan's lawyers have tried to strike a deal where he'd receive probation," the insider told the outlet. "But it's looking bleak at this point. He's likely to spend time behind bars."
If the GRAMMY Award winner is convicted on all three counts, he could serve up to six years. The anonymous source declared that the "best scenario" is a "30-to-60-day sentence."
Although Wallen would luck out with this sentencing, it would still severely disrupt his tour plans.
The country star also faces uncertainty regarding whether Davidson County prosecutors will reduce his felony charges to misdemeanors. A felony conviction could hinder Wallen's ability to secure work visas for international tours.
"I don't think the prosecutors want him to skate away with no time because people will think it's because of his celebrity status," read the report. "If Morgan has a felony conviction, it's going to make it hard for him to get work visas to tour internationally!"
The upcoming December court date is crucial for Wallen's future. If he pleads guilty, he could learn his punishment sooner. If not, the legal proceedings may drag on further.
The chart-topping artist is currently on his record-breaking One Night At A Time Tour. He is slated to hit Knoxville, Tennessee, next for two massive shows (Sept 20) and (Sept 22) at the legendary Neyland Stadium.
Stay tuned for more updates as this story develops.
