Sam Smith lit up Warsaw in Brooklyn with surprise duets from Ed Sheeran and Brandi Carlile, creating a night of plot twists, powerhouse vocals, and fan hysteria.
The act has officially come to a close, but not without a bang. New York’s iconic Warsaw venue has seen legends roll through since forever, but what Sam Smith just pulled off could be......legendary!
If you’ve never been to Warsaw in Brooklyn’s Polish-rich Greenpoint, just imagine an intimate rock venue where you can hear Grammy-level vocals and grab pierogies – It’s giving cozy chaos. It’s giving culture. It’s giving, “Only in New York.”
And even though the place has hosted everyone from Jack White to Kesha, Smith’s To Be Free residency hits different. I mean, who else do you know with Grammys and an Oscar performing in a 1,000-capacity room? According to Billboard, Sam said they wanted to “get back into rooms where I can see your faces,” and the love was definitely mutual.
Even the audience was A-list. We’re talking Anna Wintour, Anne Hathaway, and JD Samson. During the concert, Smith joked about the cold Brooklyn drizzle, saying, “I come from England and this is cold!” but trust, the stage was on fire.
First surprise? Brandi Carlile – the vocal fairy godmother herself. The two reunited for a heart-tugging performance of "Party of One," their 2018 charity collaboration supporting children in war zones. Carlile stepped up to the mic and reminded every person in the room why she stays booked, blessed, and beloved.
Just when the crowd thought they’d survived the emotional roller coaster, Ed Sheeran slipped out of VIP. Yes, Sheeran had been chilling with his wife all night. Yes, the crowd collectively screamed. And yes, Smith planted a cute kiss on his head before announcing the first-ever live duet of their 2023 collab “Who We Love.” Sheeran pulled out the acoustic guitar and gave that shuffling-around-the-stage vibe that only Sheeran can do while still somehow making it Grammy-tier. It was chill, homey, and still musically insane.
When Smith brought BOTH Carlile and Sheeran back out for "I’m Not the Only One," the Warsaw walls almost levitated. The trio actually made it feel like a brand-new ballad. A little more folk, a little more soul, and a whole lot of "why is this not on streaming tonight?"
Brooklyn wasn’t the only place screaming – social media had its own little meltdown. Fans were calling it "a powerhouse lineup for a residency." Others were convinced the whole night turned into "a full-on love-triangle concert," the kind where everyone’s singing their heart out and nobody’s sure whose song belongs to who anymore.
One comment joked that the stage "had more plot twists than a Netflix thriller," and honestly? Facts. Between surprise entrances, sentimental duets, and the crowd’s whiplash from screaming to sobbing, it felt like a season finale. Another fan just summed it up with a simple but powerful take, “Legends.” And truly, no lies were told.
The residency is ending soon, Dec. 13 to be exact. However, the story isn’t over. Smith's been testing out new material. Billboard reports the new song is called "My Guy," inspired by designer Christian Cowan, who was also in the VIP section.
If you missed this run? Don’t panic, Smith is bringing a similar residency to San Francisco starting in February. Who do you want to see Smith Collaborate with next? Let us know your Fan of View below or by sending us a message on social media @fandomdaily_.
