After a breakup inspired her to reclaim her story, Elle Winter channeled Mel Robbins’ "Let Them theory" into her empowering new single “Never Even Met Her."
Singer-songwriter Elle Winter has always had a gift for connecting with listeners through her heartfelt songwriting.
With more than 20 million streams across platforms and a career that began when she was discovered by Radio Disney’s Next Big Thing, Winter is no stranger to reinvention. But with the release of, "Never Even Met Her," she’s reintroducing herself with a project that is bold, empowering, and deeply personal.
“I had just gone through a breakup and I found out that my ex was rewriting our history and telling our close friends a very twisted version of the story,” Winter told Fandom Daily. “Rather than letting that consume me and bring me down, I wanted to figure out a way I could turn this into a moment of learning and strength. I went to the studio wanting to write an uplifting song that reminded me not to let anyone else define me. What people say about me actually has nothing to do with me. I’m the only one who can define my life.”
Inspired by Mel Robbins’ Let Them theory, Winter used the studio session to channel her frustration into a reminder of self-worth.
“The girl he was describing – it was so absurd. I had never even met her,” she uttered with a laugh. As fate would have it, the very next day, she ran into Robbins herself on a flight back to New York. “It was almost meant to be. It felt like a sign from the universe that everything was clicking into place.”
That synchronicity carried into the making of a full project, which reunited her with producers The Orphanage (Lizzo, Demi Lovato, Sabrina Carpenter), who also worked on her debut EP Yeah, No, now at over 30 million streams.
“It was honestly such a homecoming,” said Winter. “They know me so well and really bring out the best in me. Everything just fell into place in the way it was supposed to.”
For Winter, "Never Even Met Her" isn’t just another release – it’s a statement of growth and renewal.
“Although I’ve released music in the past, I feel like this project is a bit of a reintroduction,” she reflects. “Every new project is a new era. It’s like the girl you thought you knew – maybe you never met her. Being both a singer and an actor, I’m constantly discovering things about myself, and this EP really shows me coming into my own in an even bigger way. I had such a clear vision of what I wanted to say and who I was, and that’s why I knew this had to be the title track.”
That clarity is what she hopes fans carry with them when they listen.
“I want people to feel confident in who they are and what they stand for, and to understand that no one can define them,” she says. “Whether it’s navigating the music industry or just dealing with preconceived notions after a breakup or personal experience, I think it’s a relatable concept. I just want people to feel confident, seen, and less alone.”
Looking back on her journey – from performing with Chloe x Halle, to stages like the Today Show and KIIS-FM’s Jingle Ball, to her most recent single Help – Winter says she’s learned to appreciate the process as much as the milestones.
“Starting so young, I always had big dreams,” she recalls. “But now I see that the journey is the most special part. The goalpost will always move. You achieve one dream and then want something else, but staying present and realizing the ride itself is the rewarding part – that’s what I’ve learned.”
Much of that perspective comes from the people closest to her. “My family has been so supportive,” she says warmly. “My mom traveled the world with me to tour and make music, and my sister helps me with all my social media. It’s become this family project. The industry can be lonely since it’s such a unique path, but having people I can rely on who just want the best for me has made all the difference.”
As for what’s next, Winter hints at more live shows, new visuals, and of course, the premiere of the "Never Even Met Her" music video.
“I’d love to be back touring and performing this new music,” she says. “The visual world is also such an exciting part of this project."
With her fearless voice, empowering lyrics, and unwavering confidence, Winter is stepping into her next era stronger than ever, reclaiming her narrative and inspiring fans to do the same.
