Teddi Mellencamp shares an emotional conversation with her dad about her future while battling Stage 4 cancer.
Teddi Mellencamp, the 43-year-old Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum, has always been known for her candidness and dry humor, but in a recent episode of her Two Ts in a Pod with cohost Tamra Judge, Mellencamp opened up about a deeply personal moment with her father.
Legendary musician John Mellencamp sparked a difficult conversation surrounding her future burial plans.
Mellencamp, who has been bravely battling Stage 4 cancer, shared that her father had called her a staggering 11 times in a row. When she finally picked up, she was hoping for a moment of peace while in the bath, but the concerned father had something important he wanted to discuss.
"Yesterday, my dad calls me 11 times in a row. Finally, I answer, I'm like, 'I'm in the bath. Let me live a little,'" recalled the reality star. "He goes, 'I just want to make sure you're going to be in our group family mausoleum.'"
The exchange, while light-hearted, carried deep emotional weight as Mellencamp's family navigates the harsh realities of her illness. In the podcast, Mellencamp continued to explain how she responded to questions about her children's future involvement in the family burial plot. She is the mother of three children – Slate, 12, Cruz, 10, and Dove, 5. Their mausoleum is located in Indiana.
"He's like, 'Well, there's going to be the top five, and then we're gonna have little areas around it, and then that's where everyone's going to get buried,'" he explained. "He goes, 'You're doing your will right now, so you may as well put it in there.'"
Despite the gravity of the conversation, Mellencamp handled it with her trademark humor. When Judge asked if the mausoleum was located in John's native Indiana, she responded with a dry joke: "Yes, you're gonna have to visit my grave there."
She continued to crack jokes, bringing light to the emotional conversation. Mellencamp shared a hilarious quote she recently heard from a stranger.
"Hot girls never die." She quipped. "That's going on my tombstone."
In February, the podcaster revealed her cancer had progressed to Stage 4 – with brain tumors that had spread to her lungs. The diagnosis followed a difficult period, as she had been previously battling multiple health challenges, including undergoing brain surgery. Mellencamp said she suffered "severe and debilitating headaches" for several weeks before discovering the tumors.
On April 2, Mellencamp took to Instagram Stories to express her gratitude for the overwhelming support she has received.
"I woke up to so many kind messages," she said. "I just want to say thank you guys so much. So many messages about how strong I am. And I gotta tell you, some days I feel really, really strong, and some days I feel really, really sad and alone. And I think that's a normal part of what any of us are going through, and that's okay. Stage 4 cancer can be scary," Mellencamp added.
Though she faces a tough road ahead, Mellencamp's resilience shines through in her unwavering determination to stay positive.
"I'm just thinking about all the goals that I have for the future for myself and for my kids," she said. Despite the physical and mental toll that cancer treatment has taken, she continues to look ahead and focus on her family and personal aspirations.
