Few characters have captured the imagination of Star Wars fans quite like Boba Fett. Though his apparent demise in Return of the Jedi was quick and unceremonious, fans couldn’t accept that this galaxy-renowned bounty hunter would be trounced. Theories of his survival grew over the years, bolstered by non-canon Expanded Universe stories.

Theories about his survival began to circulate almost immediately after the release of Return of the Jedi. Over the years, these theories were reinforced by non-canon Expanded Universe stories, which explored multiple potential scenarios for how Boba Fett might have escaped death. One such story, A Barve Like That: The Tale of Boba Fett, suggested that the bounty hunter used his jetpack to escape the Sarlacc pit. This was further supported by other stories in the Expanded Universe, such as The Mandalorian Armor, which depicted Fett being rescued by his fellow Mandalorians. In this tale, Boba Fett not only survived but was also able to recover and reclaim his iconic Mandalorian armor. Another nod to Fett’s potential survival came in the Dark Empire comic series, where a line suggests that the Sarlacc found him “somewhat indigestible,” hinting that his escape might have been a possibility (Heavy Spoilers).

Fans rejoiced when The Mandalorian confirmed his return, showing the grizzled Fett walking out of the Sarlacc’s clutches. The Book of Boba Fett expanded on this legend, giving us an intimate look at how the bounty hunter survived and evolved. This was a triumph for fans who never gave up on their belief that Fett’s story was far from over.

When Darth Maul was introduced in The Phantom Menace, his acrobatic fighting style and terrifying presence instantly made him a fan favorite. His apparent death at the hands of Obi-Wan Kenobi felt premature, leaving fans speculating about his potential return. Could Maul's hatred for the Jedi have been strong enough to keep him alive?

Enter Star Wars: The Clone Wars, where Maul’s survival was confirmed. Rebuilt with mechanical legs and driven by revenge, Maul’s story continued to unfold in ways fans could have only dreamed of. Later, Star Wars Rebels gave him an unforgettable end, solidifying him as one of the most complex characters in Star Wars lore. 

The Death Star Flaw Was No Accident

For decades, fans debated the plausibility of the Death Star’s one fatal flaw: an exposed exhaust port that led directly to its destruction. Some theorized that the flaw was too convenient to be an oversight and must have been intentional sabotage.

This theory was beautifully realized in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, where we learned that Galen Erso, an Imperial scientist, deliberately designed the reactor weakness. His quiet act of rebellion became the key to the Rebel Alliance’s greatest victory, and his story added a layer of depth and tragedy to the saga.

This theory was finally confirmed in Return of the Jedi, where it was revealed that Luke and Leia were twin siblings, separated at birth for their protection. The differences in their personalities and the sense of "destiny" surrounding them only deepened the theory that they might be more closely related than previously thought.

Rey’s origins were one of the biggest mysteries of the Star Wars sequel trilogy, with fans speculating whether she was a Skywalker, Kenobi, or something entirely different. The Rise of Skywalker confirmed this chilling theory, revealing Rey as the granddaughter of the Emperor. This revelation reframed her journey as one of overcoming her dark lineage and choosing her own destiny, tying her directly to Star Wars’ most sinister figure.
