Fans are backing Brooklyn and Nicola as they finally speak out about wedding chaos and years of family tension.
The Beckham family is in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons right now.
Brooklyn Beckham, 26, has publicly shared a lengthy Instagram statement detailing years of tension with his parents, David and Victoria Beckham, and it’s sent fans and the media into a frenzy. According to Brooklyn, the drama revolves largely around his marriage to actress Nicola Peltz Beckham and ongoing family conflicts that have left him feeling controlled and anxious for much of his life.
Brooklyn is the eldest child of David and Victoria Beckham. He grew up in the public eye, following in his parents’ footsteps into careers in photography, modeling, and social media, often sharing glimpses of his life online. Peltz is an American actress and model, the daughter of billionaire businessman Nelson Peltz. She’s best known for her roles in The Last Airbender (2015), Bates Motel, and Transformers: Age of Extinction. She has also carved out a name for herself in the fashion world.
Brooklyn and Nicola met in 2019 through mutual friends and started dating shortly after. They got engaged in July 2020, and the couple tied the knot in a lavish 2022 wedding, which has since become a focal point in Brooklyn’s allegations of family interference.
Brooklyn turned to social media late Sunday night (Jan.19) to drop bombshell claims about his family. Within the lengthy Instagram stories, he claims that his parents have been controlling him for years.
“I have been silent for years and made every effort to keep these matters private. Unfortunately, my parents and their team have continued to go to the press, leaving me with no choice but to speak for myself and tell the truth about only some of the lies that have been printed,” he wrote. “I do not want to reconcile with my family. I’m not being controlled, I’m standing up for myself for the first time in my life. “
The Instagram confession included several shocking allegations. Keep reading for a deep dive.
Wedding Interference
Brooklyn claimed Victoria backed out of designing Nicola’s wedding dress “in the eleventh hour,” forcing a last-minute replacement. He also said his parents pressured him to sign away the rights to his name before the wedding, and after he refused, they allegedly treated him differently.
“My parents have been trying endlessly to ruin my relationship since before my wedding, and it hasn’t stopped. My mum cancelled making Nicola’s dress in the eleventh hour despite how excited she was to wear her design, forcing her to urgently find a new dress,” Brooklyn explained. “Weeks before our big day, my parents repeatedly pressured and attempted to bribe me into signing away the rights to my name, which would have affected me, my wife, and our future children.”
He continued, “They were adamant on my signing before my wedding date because then the terms of the deal would be initiated. My holdout affected the payday, and they have never treated me the same since. During the wedding planning, my mum went so far as to call me “evil.”
The Humiliating First Dance
Brooklyn claimed his mother “hijacked” his first dance with Nicola in front of 500 guests, dancing in what he described as a “very inappropriate” way, leaving him embarrassed.
“My mum hijacked my first dance with my wife, which had been planned weeks in advance to be a romantic love song. In front of our 500 wedding guests, Marc Anthony called me to the stage, where in the schedule it was planned to be my romantic dance with my wife, but instead, my mum was waiting to dance with me,” he pointed out. “She danced very inappropriately in front of me in front of everyone. I’ve never felt more uncomfortable or humiliated in my entire life.”
Guests at Brooklyn and Nicola’s wedding are speaking out after claims that Victoria danced “inappropriately” with her son. Stavros Agapiou, partner of DJ Fat Tony, who played at the reception, initially backed the story on Instagram, saying, “I was there, and he’s telling the truth,” but later deleted the comment and promised to keep quiet.
Is Nicola Considered Family?
One of the most eye-opening parts of Brooklyn’s posts is how he describes his family's treatment of Nicola from the very beginning. He claimed that some family members reportedly told him she was “not blood” and “not family,” basically making it clear she’d never really be accepted into the Beckham clan.
“The night before our wedding, members of my family told me that Nicola was “not blood” and “not family,” he wrote. “Since the moment I started standing up for myself with my family, I’ve received endless attacks from my parents, both privately and publicly, that were sent to the press on their orders. Even my brothers were sent to attack me on social media, before they ultimately blocked me out of nowhere this last summer.”
Public Image Over Family
Brooklyn said his parents prioritized “Brand Beckham” over personal relationships, highlighting moments like being rejected from David’s 50th birthday party unless it was at a large, publicized event. He also criticized family photo ops and social media appearances that valued public perception over real family connection.
David Beckham Speaks Out
David Beckham spoke at the
World Economic Forum on Tuesday (Jan. 20)about the broader impact of social media on children, highlighting that kids make mistakes and need guidance, seemingly addressing his son’s accusations.
“I’ve always spoken about social media and the power of social media, for the good and for the bad,” David told
CNBC’s Squawk Box. “The bad, we’ve talked about, what kids can access these days, and it can be dangerous. But what I’ve found, you know, especially with my kids, is that they use it for the right reasons. You know, I’ve been able to use my platform and my following for UNICEF, and it’s been the biggest tool to make people aware of what’s going on around the world for children, and I’ve tried to do the same.”
He also said, “I’ve tried to do the same with my children, to educate them. They make mistakes. Children are allowed to make mistakes. That’s how they learn. So, that’s what I try to teach my kids. But you know, you have to sometimes let them make those mistakes.”
Victoria Beckham has also stayed silent publicly, while the rest of the family has kept responses minimal, letting the situation play out in the public eye.
The Fan Reaction
The majority of Fans have rallied behind Brooklyn and Nicola.
Rebecca Loos, David Beckham’s former personal assistant, who previously claimed an affair with him in 2004, publicly supported Brooklyn,
saying she was “so happy he is standing up for himself” and expressing sympathy for Nicola. She added, “The truth always comes out.”
