Disney And Pixar's 2025 Movie Slate: Sequels, Remakes, And A Few Surprises

Disney’s 2025 lineup is packed with sequels and live-action remakes like 'Frozen 3,' 'Lilo & Stitch,' and 'Hercules.' Will they recapture the magic or fuel sequel fatigue? Here’s what’s coming!

It looks like Disney is hitting the nostalgia button hard in 2025. Out of the 12 scheduled releases, only two aren't sequels or remakes. If you’re craving something original, you might have to dig deep – but hey, at least there are some exciting new adventures (and familiar faces) coming to the big screen!

Let’s break it all down.

Snow White (March 21, 2025)

Another day, another Disney live-action remake. This time, Snow White gets a facelift with West Side Story’s Rachel Zegler playing the iconic princess and Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen. Controversy has surrounded Zegler’s casting, with some fans debating whether she fits the “skin as white as snow” description from the original fairytale. Still, with Marc Webb directing and Greta Gerwig involved in the screenplay, this could be a fresh take on a classic.

Lilo & Stitch (2025)

Can we talk about how Lilo & Stitch (2002) was a chef’s kiss of childhood cinema? Now, Disney is bringing it back in a “live-action” format – though let’s be real, Stitch is definitely CGI. The D23 event revealed a first look at our mischievous blue alien, and fans are cautiously optimistic. Maia Kealoha plays Lilo, with Zach Galifianakis also in a mystery role.

Moana (July 10, 2026)

What can I say except… why?” Many fans questioned why Moana (2016) is getting a live-action remake so soon. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson returns as Maui, but Auli’i Cravalho won’t reprise her role as Moana – though she’s on board as an executive producer. Catherine Laga‘aia will step into the leading role, with Hamilton’s Thomas Kail directing.

Hercules (TBA)

Guy Ritchie (Aladdin) directs, while the Russo brothers (Avengers: Endgame) produce this reimagining of the Hercules legend. Danny DeVito may return as Phil (because, honestly, who else could play him?), and the filmmakers say they’re taking TikTok inspiration for a modern musical twist.

Sequels, Because We Just Can’t Let Go

Toy Story 5 (June 19, 2026)

Just when we thought Toy Story 4 wrapped things up, Disney pulled an “Oh, you’ve got a friend in ME!” move and announced Toy Story 5. Bob Iger made the reveal in 2023, and while there’s little info on the plot, fans are torn between excitement and sequel fatigue.

Frozen 3 (November 24, 2027)

Winter is coming… again. Idina Menzel (Elsa) and Josh Gad (Olaf) are back, though Kristen Bell (Anna) has yet to confirm her return. Rumors suggest the sequel will pick up after Frozen 2, with Anna ruling Arendelle and Elsa embracing her magical destiny. Let’s just hope we get another earworm to match "Let It Go."

Zootopia 2 (November 26, 2025)

Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde are back! Ginnifer Goodwin and Jason Bateman have teased a role reversal in the upcoming sequel, with Nick possibly becoming the more skeptical one. The first Zootopia was a massive hit, so expectations are high.

The Incredibles 3 (TBA)

We waited 14 years between The Incredibles and Incredibles 2 – thankfully, we’re not waiting that long this time. Director Brad Bird is back, but plot details are under wraps.

New Stories on the Horizon

Elio (June 13, 2025)

This one is actually an original story! Pixar’s Elio follows an 11-year-old boy who gets mistaken for Earth’s ambassador by an alien race and has to navigate intergalactic diplomacy. Originally slated for 2024, production delays pushed it to 2025.

Tron: Ares (October 10, 2025)

Jared Leto leads this Tron reboot as Ares, an AI program venturing into the human world. The project’s been in limbo since 2010, but it’s finally happening. Hopefully, it’s worth the wait!

Freakier Friday (2025)

Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis are back for this Freaky Friday sequel, promising to be even freakier. The 2003 version was already a remake, so this is technically a sequel to a remake

Marvel and More: Superheroes, Sci-Fi, and a Few Wild Cards

Captain America: Brave New World (February 14, 2025)

Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) takes up the Captain America mantle. Harrison Ford joins as President Thaddeus Ross, who – spoiler alert  – may turn into Red Hulk. Villains include The Leader (Tim Blake Nelson) and Sidewinder (Giancarlo Esposito).

The Fantastic Four (July 25, 2025)

The Fantastic Four officially enters the MCU! Pedro Pascal (Reed Richards), Vanessa Kirby (Sue Storm), Joseph Quinn (Johnny Storm), and Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Ben Grimm) battle Galactus and Silver Surfer (Julia Garner). Directed by WandaVision’s Matt Shakman, this is shaping up to be a fantastic reboot.

Avatar 3: Fire and Ash (December 19, 2025)

James Cameron’s Avatar saga continues with Fire and Ash, which was shot alongside The Way of Water. Not much is known, but expect Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña) to return.

Cruella 2 (TBA)

Emma Stone is set to reprise her role as the fashionable villain. Given the success of the first film, we’re ready for more de-VIL-ish fun.

Disney is clearly leaning into nostalgia, and while some fans are thrilled, others are asking, “Where’s the originality?” Regardless, with big names, big budgets, and a few fresh concepts (looking at you, Elio), 2025 is shaping up to be another massive year for Disney and Pixar.
