Vincent Martella returns as the voice of Phineas in Disney’s iconic animated revival, opening up to Fandom Daily about the show’s lasting legacy, new music, and 104 more days of summer fun.
I know what we’re gonna do this summer!
After nearly a decade off the air, Phineas and Ferb is officially back, and the return of Disney’s five-time Emmy Award-winning animated series has fans (old and new) counting down the days until they’re once again living out 104 days of summer vacation.
Premiering June 5 on Disney Channel and Disney XD, and arriving on Disney+ with the first 10 episodes on June 6, the revival marks a massive cultural moment — one that voice actor Vincent Martella is especially excited about.
Martella, now 32, has been the voice of Phineas Flynn since he was just 13 years old. For the past year and a half, he’s been quietly working behind the scenes on the new season and now, with the episodes finally about to roll out, he’s ready to talk about what it means to return to one of TV’s most beloved animated roles.
“It’s really exciting, personally,” Martella shares in an exclusive interview with Fandom Daily. “I’ve been working on this new season for a year and a half now, so to finally get to share that with everyone is just surreal. I’ve worked on this character on and off for 17 years, and the fact that I still get to do this job and play a character that means so much to people — is something I don’t take for granted.”
Martella’s return was as unexpected for him as it was for fans. In fact, he found out about the revival not through Disney or a call from production, but from a Variety article.
“A castmate sent it to me and said, ‘Is this real?’” he laughs. “So I called Dan [Povenmire, co-creator and voice of Dr. Doofenshmirtz] and he goes, ‘Vincent Martella, I know exactly why you’re calling.’ He had just announced it on stage at a Disney event. That’s how the internet works — he said something and it was instantly everywhere.”
Martella’s connection to Phineas runs deep, not just as a job, but as a personal milestone. He recorded the original pilot from Disney World (then MGM Studios) while still living in Florida.
“They had such a hard time casting Phineas,” he recalls. “I came in late in the process, and they loved it. But you never expect a project to take off like that. I had worked on a couple animated pilots before and nothing ever happened. I figured this would be the same.”
Spoiler: it wasn’t. The series became one of Disney’s biggest animated hits, spawning four seasons, two movies, video games, and a global fandom! It even earned a permanent presence at the Disney Parks — something Martella still can’t quite believe.

“There are walk-around characters of Phineas and Ferb that kids wait in line to meet. That really hits me,” he says. “Sometimes I’ll be at a Disney park and hear a song I sang as Phineas playing in the background. That’s gotten me choked up. I can’t believe I’ve been part of something that means so much to people.”
With the new season on the way, Martella says fans can expect the same imaginative energy that made the original run so iconic — plus a brand-new musical number titled “Summer Starts Now” that kicks things off.
“We still have a new original song in nearly every episode,” he says. “I’ve already recorded pop, hip-hop, and some songs that are totally different from each other. It’s one of the most fun parts of the job — singing these catchy, clever songs the writers come up with. People still go crazy for ‘Squirrels in My Pants’ or ‘Gitchee Gitchee Goo’ on TikTok, so I think they’ll really love what’s coming.”
But it’s not just about nostalgia — Martella believes the show’s message is more relevant than ever.
“Even back when it first aired, we were encouraging kids to get outside, use their imagination, build things, be creative. And now in 2025, that message is so important,” he explains. “I’ve met people who are engineers today because they watched Phineas and Ferb. That blows my mind. That’s exactly what Dan and Swampy wanted — to inspire creativity.”

So what can fans expect this summer? According to Martella, more of everything they love: crazy inventions, heartfelt laughs, unforgettable songs, and of course — Perry the Platypus doing his best secret agent work.
“We care so deeply about this show,” he says. “And if it goes well — which I think it will — we hope to keep doing this for years to come.”
And with 40 new episodes greenlit, this is just the beginning of the next chapter. So grab your blueprint, cue the musical montage, and get ready — because Phineas, Ferb, and the gang are back, and summer has never looked better.
