Sam Hunt plays single "Locked Up" at the 2024 CMT Awards, serving up a Johnny Cash inspired ensemble.
Sam Hunt has returned to the spotlight with new music up his sleeve. The hitmaker graced the stage with his latest hit, "Locked Up," at this year's 2024 CMT Music Awards.
Dressed sharply in a sleek black suit complemented by a crisp white dress shirt, Hunt brought a modern twist to the classic "Folsom Prison Blues" vibe, infusing the CMT stage with his signature charm.
Accompanied by a dynamic full band sporting matching black suits and a spirited crew of actors portraying inmates, Hunt's performance was nothing short of electrifying. "It was sort of meant to be a homage, a throwback, to Johnny Cash's legendary concert at Folsom Prison. That's the essence we aimed to capture," Hunt shared with The Tennessean ahead of his performance.
Recalling Cash's iconic 1968 performance at California's Folsom Prison, Hunt recognized the transformative power of music in Cash's life. Despite facing personal challenges and career setbacks, Cash's Folsom Prison concert reignited his musical journey – propelling him back into the limelight and reshaping his artistic identity.
Fresh off the release of his new EP, also titled Locked Up, on April 4, Hunt delved into the themes of growth, family, and the inevitable transition from a carefree lifestyle to a more settled existence. "The EP encapsulates the journey of growing up, starting a family, and navigating the crossroads between embracing stability and clinging onto the free-spirited nature of youth," added Hunt.
The project is Hunt's first release of 2024 and the follow-up to his chart-topping album, Southside. The 2020 LP includes smash hits like "Kinfolks," "Body Like A Back Road," "Breaking Up Was Easy In The 90's," and more. Hunt was not nominated at this year's award show but was previously acknowledged nine times. In 2014, he received Breakthrough Video of The Year for "Leave the Night On."
Hunt is hitting the road once again, bringing his electrifying performance to fans across the United States and Canada alongside Russell Dickerson with his highly anticipated Locked Up Tour, which you can find more information about here on Fandom Daily.
