Apple TV+ announced (April 28) that Season 4 will premiere Aug. 5 and released a teaser that’s already sending the fandom into full-on celebration.
The short clip features Jason Sudeikis’ character alongside returning cast members, including Hannah Waddingham, Juno Temple, and Brett Goldstein, and closes with Ted’s new catchphrase-style quip “ASAP PP” (as soon as possible, pretty please).
According to Apple’s synopsis, Season 4 follows Ted as he returns to Richmond to take on "his biggest challenge yet: coaching a second division women’s football team." The season brings back some familiar faces and creative personnel – Sudeikis, Brendan Hunt and Jeremy Swift , and writers and executive producers from earlier seasons are back on board. However, fans could expect new cast members such as Tanya Reynolds, Jude Mack, and Faye Marsay.
Sudeikis, who previously described the show as having been planned as a three-season arc, acknowledged audience interest in more Lasso stories and called the response "flattering."
However, fans should prepare not to see Phil Dunster (Jamie). He was not initially picked up, reportedly due to a scheduling conflict with another series. He has since joined a new HBO comedy from Ted Lasso EP Bill Lawrence and Warner Bros. He could still return in a limited capacity, while co-star Nick Mohammed (Nate) has hinted at a possible comeback.
The excitement around season 4 has been massive because this show helped stitch a community together. Not only has it won big awards, but also hearts. Seeing the full cast reunited reassures fans who feared a fourth season might weaken the story.
Instead, it teases a bold new direction. Ted returns to Richmond to coach a second-division women’s football team, a fresh narrative that promises the same hopeful, character-first storytelling that drew us in.
What the creators say matters, too. Sudeikis has previously acknowledged the show once had a three-season vision but noted the audience’s appetite for more. It was "the end of this story that we wanted to tell," he told Deadline, and implied the extra seasons are a flattering expansion of that world. With original writers and exec-producers back, plus new faces joining the cast, there’s reason to expect continuity rather than a reboot.
Fans are now asking themselves – How will Ted’s coaching translate to a women’s second-division team? What emotional beats from Seasons 1–3 will the writers revisit or resolve?
Viewers are keeping their eyes on returning favorites and new additions like Reynolds and Mack, who could shift the team chemistry in exciting ways. Despite the new storyline, fans can expect the show’s signature mix of awkward humor, emotional honesty, and big-hearted risk-taking.
