From jaw-dropping performances to heartfelt speeches, the event was a dazzling showcase of talent and creativity.

Entertainer of the Year - Usher

The prestigious title of Entertainer of the Year was bestowed upon the incomparable Usher, whose multifaceted career has spanned decades and left an indelible mark on the industry. As a Grammy-winning artist, Usher has consistently pushed boundaries with his music, captivating audiences worldwide. Beyond his musical prowess, Usher's philanthropic efforts through his New Look Foundation have made a significant impact, earning him the esteemed President's Award.

Best Motion Picture - The Color Purple

The night saw The Color Purple crowned as the Best Motion Picture, a triumphant moment for the cast and crew who brought this timeless story to life. Best Actress in a Motion Picture - Fantasia Barrino

Fantasia Barrino's portrayal of Celie in The Color Purple earned her the well-deserved accolade for Best Actress in a Motion Picture. “I was afraid to play Celie,” she said, “But I’m glad I did because I kept saying ‘If I don’t win an award, the awards that I will win is the people who who will watch 'The Color Purple' and the women that will relate to her and will feel like Oscars when they walk out.”

The actor told theGrio exclusively that his mother was his “good luck charm” after winning his first award for best actor in a drama series at the 55th NAACP Image Awards.

A Fan Favorite: Abbott Elementary - Winner of Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series (Quinta Brunson) and Best Comedy

Adding to the night's excitement was the recognition of the breakout comedy series Abbott Elementary, which garnered attention for its refreshing take on the inner workings of a Philadelphia public school. Led by the talented Quinta Brunson, the series received praise for its sharp wit, authentic portrayal of educators, and timely commentary on the challenges facing public education. With its stellar ensemble cast and clever writing, Abbott Elementary shined as a beacon of laughter and inspiration, earning acclaim from audiences and critics alike. 

Brunson, creator and star of Abott Elementary, stated in her acceptance speech for Best Actress in a Comedy Series,  “Let me just say thank you so much,” she continued. “It’s such an honor. I love coming to this ceremony and getting to see all of my friends and all the people that I don’t get to see on a daily basis while we’re working. I’m just extremely honored, yet again. I’m very proud of the work I get to do in Abbott. I’m very proud of my cast. Let me also, while I’m here, say thank you to the NAACP for awarding Abbott Best Comedy. We really appreciate it.
