Jason Kelce revealed he’s hoping to be best man at Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift’s wedding, though he admits his brother has plenty of close friends, including Patrick Mahomes, who could also be contenders.
Fans were in for a surprise after Page Six confirmed that Travis Kelce proposed to Taylor Swift immediately following her record-breaking New Heights podcast taping.
According to an insider, the Kansas City Chiefs tight-end had long known he wanted to spend forever with the pop superstar, and he timed the proposal perfectly so Swift would already be glammed up with hair and makeup.
While Swift and Kelce were reminiscing about the early days of their romance and teasing details about her new album on the podcast, a crew was quietly transforming Kelce’s backyard into a magical garden.
“He knew that he wanted to marry her. [The date] was just a matter of when the timing was right,” the insider told Page Six. “It was less about the significance of the time and [more about] when he could actually do it in between her tour and his season.”
Kelce's father, Ed Kelce, revealed that his son got Swift into the backyard by suggesting they have a glass of wine before dinner. Then, with a custom seven-figure, old mine brilliant-cut ring co-designed with jeweler Kindred Lubeck, Kelce got down on one knee and Swift said yes.
The couple kept the engagement private for a few weeks, though their families were informed and described as “thrilled.” They finally shared the news on Instagram on August 26, captioning the announcement, “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married 🧨.”
However, some fans speculated that the proposal took place right after the podcast taping.
Before Page Six confirmed the news on Tuesday, eagle-eyed Swifties had already spotted hints that the New Heights podcast taping might have taken place just before Kelce proposed. Fans took to social media to point out subtle details, like headphone markings on Taylor’s hair, sparking speculation that the magical moment was closer to the recording than anyone realized.
Details about their upcoming wedding are starting to surface, and it sounds like the best man spot could be a hot topic. On a forthcoming episode of the Bussin’ With The Boys podcast, former Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce joked about potential competition for the role.
“Hopefully I’m the best man. We’ll see,” he said. “Trav has a lot of friends, I’m just hoping to get the opportunity.” The tight-end was Jason’s best man at his 2018 wedding to Kylie Kelce, so it seems likely he’ll return the favor. If not, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who Jason was a groomsman for in 2022, could be in the running.
As of now, close sources say a wedding isn’t imminent, as they plan to wait until the NFL season ends. When the big day does come, it’s expected to be “private” and “casual.” With the engagement now public, fans are eager for every detail and are dissecting everything from the podcast episode to the jaw-dropping backyard proposal.
