Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis reunite for another round of body-swapping mayhem in the newly released trailer (March 14) for Freakier Friday, set to hit theaters later this summer.
This highly-anticipated sequel to Disney's original Freaky Friday updates the supernatural comedy for modern times, complete with some novel twists to keep things intriguing after a 22-year hiatus. Alongside Curtis and Lohan, the trailer reveals newcomers Julia Butters and Sophia Hammons will also be part of the body-swapping chaos.
The trailer starts with Anna and Tess encountering a fortune teller who hints that they might have to revisit a lesson from the past. What follows is a series of fresh challenges and comedic mishaps, all highlighted by Chappell Roan’s energetic track, "HOT TO GO!".

Speculation about a Freaky Friday sequel began to swirl after Curtis hinted at the project's possibility during an October 2022 interview on The View. "I've already written to Disney," Curtis revealed. "I'm 64 years old... so my point is, I'm wide open, creatively I am wide open... Bring it!"
Following her outreach to Disney, Curtis reached out to Lohan, who expressed her enthusiasm for revisiting their iconic roles a month later.
"I had to bring myself down to Earth and be like, ‘OK, I’m on set. I have to focus.’ And then she said Freaky Friday 2, and I got more excited," Lohan shared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
With both Curtis and Lohan eager to return, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed in May 2023 that Disney had officially greenlit the sequel. Lohan reaffirmed the project's progression during a March 2024 interview on SiriusXM’s Andy Cohen Live, confirming that the sequel was indeed moving forward. Later that month, Curtis shared a photo on Instagram from a 2023 reunion with Lohan, tagging Disney and captioning it, “DUH! FFDEUX!”
Variety reported that Andrew Gunn, producer of the original film, will return to co-produce the sequel alongside Kristin Burr and Curtis, with Nathan Kelly, Ann Marie Sanderlin, and Lohan also serving as executive producers, as Disney confirmed in a June 2024 press release.
Production for Freakier Friday officially commenced on June 24, 2024, according to a Disney announcement. Filming kicked off in Los Angeles, where Lohan and Curtis were seen posing for photographers at their trailers.

Additionally, original cast members Christina Vidal Mitchell (Maddie), Haley Hudson (Peg), Lucille Soong (Pei-Pei's mom), Stephen Tobolowsky (Mr. Bates), and Rosalind Chao (Pei-Pei) are returning.
Christina Vidal and Haley Hudson will not only return to their roles but will also reunite their on-screen band. Pink Slip, the fictional garage band from the first Freaky Friday film, will make a comeback in Freakier Friday.
“Pink Slip is back together," Lohan excitedly announced to Fallon during her November 17, 2024, appearance on The Tonight Show.
The movie is set to officially premiere in theaters on August 8, 2025.
