Zach Bryan is facing backlash after a heated altercation at a New York City bar, where he lost his cool over a game of pool and confronted a fan he mistakenly believed was filming him.
Zach Bryan has once again found himself in the headlines for all the wrong reasons. Just months after his very public breakup with Brianna "Chickenfry" LaPaglia, the country singer got into a heated altercation at a New York City bar, leaving many fans disappointed and confused.
According to a video obtained by TMZ, the incident happened on Monday night (Feb.17) at a West Village bar while Bryan was playing a round of pool. Bystanders claim that the chart-topping artist lashed out after losing three rounds.
His attitude reportedly "changed on the drop of a dime." One minute, he was just another guy playing pool, and the next, he acted out in a way that left people talking. The interaction occurred around midnight and was captured on Ray-Ban Meta glasses, including two cameras, a speaker, a touchpad, and even a microphone.
The outlet reported that the bar-goer allowed the "Something In The Orange" singer to even try on the glasses. In the clip, Bryan says, "You're gonna see some terrible things tonight."
From there, it seemed to only get worse. The video shows him confronting a fan who he mistakenly believed was filming him. The other person, whose face was blurred in the footage, shot back, saying, "I'm not trying to record your ass. I'm trying to record my s**t with my friends, for memories, to have fun, and you're just being a douche."
That response did not sit well with Bryan. The vocalist responded with, "That's the gayest thing I've ever heard."
It's not exactly the kind of response you'd expect from an award-winning artist. Bryan also noticed that the glasses were recording the altercation. So, he held up his fist and said, "I wanna rip them off your face so bad 'cause we're at a bar."
As things were getting heated, Bryan's friends stepped in, quickly ushering him out of the bar before things could get physical. Allegedly, other people at the bar heard the star and his posse ask the guys over a dozen times not to film.
Now, what makes this whole situation even more eyebrow-raising is the backdrop of it all. The altercation took place directly beneath a huge "Taylor Swift 2024" banner hanging at the bar, which seems like a weird coincidence considering Bryan's notoriously icy relationship with Taylor Swift.
This incident is a tough pill to swallow for fans who've been hoping for Bryan to mature and move past these public outbursts. Bryan is undeniably talented, and his music has resonated with many, but these types of antics continue to overshadow his potential. His use of a homophobic slur, in particular, has left a bad taste in many fans' mouths, making them question whether he'll ever be held accountable for his actions.
It's becoming harder and harder for fans to separate the artist from the behavior, and for those who've stuck by him through thick and thin, this latest episode feels like a missed opportunity for growth. Although no punches were thrown, it's hard to ignore the pattern of reckless behavior and public displays of frustration that keep popping up.
