5 Moments From The 2024 CMA Awards You Should Send In Your Group Chat
The BIGGEST night of country music took place last night (Nov. 21), and we’re still buzzing over so many incredible memories made. Some broke hearts, some made us laugh, some made us smile from ear to ear.
Check out some of our favorite moments that you must send in your group chat.
Zach Top Makes Red Carpet Debut With Girlfriend, Amelia Taylor
What’s that sound? That’s the sound of millions of hearts breaking around the world. Fans were warned earlier this week when Zach Top announced that he would be bringing his girlfriend Amelia Taylor along as his date to the CMA Awards, and girls took to social media to express their pain.
“Zach Top has a girlfriend. What am I supposed to do with my life now?” One fan wrote. Another wrote on November 14, “Finding out Zach Top has a girlfriend has truly made it the worst day ever.”
Has anybody checked on them after tonight?
Megan Moroney Wins Best New Artist Of The Year
If you are a girl in your twenties, Megan Moroney continually bestows our timelines with her tongue-in-cheek lyricism and heartbreakingly-perfect storytelling. Not only do we appreciate her talents, she just is one of us. Between shooting her shot with actor Glen Powell and gushing about her crappy situationships, this honor is more personal for us.
“I’m freaking out,” the “Tennessee Orange” starlet confessed, after beating out peers Zach Top, Shaboozey, Mitchell Tenpenny, Bailey Zimmerman, and Nate Smith. She accepted this award just minutes after performing “Am I Okay?”
Before leaving the stage, the blonde bombshell credited her passionate fans for her massive success.
"Thank you, Jesus, for putting this dream on my heart and thank you for the gift of songwriting," she said. ""This is for my fans. I would say they're a large reason why I'm up here right now. The way they show up for me, the way they care about my songs, and they make signs and T-shirts, and they wait outside the venue starting at 3 a.m. It's really insane to me."
Ashley McBryde And Miranda Lambert Cannot Be Seated Together At Award Shows
In an interview with Audacy’s Stars and Strings, Ashley revealed that she cannot, and will not, sit alongside her friend Miranda Lambert because they partake in way too much “friendly trash talk.” Wouldn’t you just love to be a part of that conversation?
She confessed, “When you’re in a room full of people that do what you do, it’s nice to be able to sit down and talk trash about each other because we do… Especially Miranda and I. I think that’s why they don’t seat us together anymore - we give each other a hard time, but we’re always cheering each other on. Especially the women in Country music - we all are really good at challenging each other and showing up for each other at the same time.”
The “Girl Going Nowhere” songbird took the CMA stage to pay tribute to the late Kris Kristofferson, and we’re still emotionally recovering from this one.
Cody Johnson’s Awkward Reaction To Producer’s "Shaboozey Comment"
CMAs have a race issue. The #CMAAwards are racist. Watch the racism unfold from last night CMAs. Shaboozey deserves better & he released the biggest country song of the year 18 weeks at number one on Billboard hot 100 charts. How do you let someone get away with being this… pic.twitter.com/lu8uUaAgxC
Oh boy… CoJo seemed a bit surprised when his producer Trent Willmon got a hold of the mic during Johnson's acceptance speech for Album of the Year for his Leather record. He mentioned that the singer has been “kicking Shaboozey for a lot of years” and it seemed like he was taking a jab at the “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” singer.
It may have been a lightheaded shot where he was trying to make a joke using “booty,” but it felt a little bit more sinister – especially after Johnson's uncomfortable look on his face.
Jeff Bridges Calling Morgan Wallen, "Morgan Waylon"
Mr. @MorganWallen is the CMA Entertainer Of The Year! It’s about damn time! pic.twitter.com/xRHmo9ke0V
Jeff Bridges called Morgan Wallen, Morgan Waylon? The hitmaker was not in attendance to accept the award. The singer's devoted community did not take long to poke fun at the mistake and rally behind Wallen. The competition was tough, as the Tennessee native went head-to-head with Jelly Roll, Lainey Wilson, Chris Stapleton, and Luke Combs.
Wallen has been working in the industry for nearly a decade but has yet to score the prestigious title. He's been snubbed from award shows for many years now, and this is what happens when he wins.
