As the anticipation builds for tonight's (May 6) highly anticipated Met Gala, Vogue's iconic editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour, has unveiled the golden rule that even A-list celebrities must adhere to at the prestigious event.

The Met Gala, renowned for its glitz, glamour, and star-studded guest list, is a yearly affair organized by Wintour. Held on the iconic steps of a New York City museum, the event serves as a fundraiser for the esteemed Costume Institute.

While securing an invitation to the Met Gala remains a coveted achievement, Wintour has clarified that certain protocols must be followed. In a recent interview, she and Met curator Andrew Bolton highlighted two rules: no smoking and no touching the artwork.

Ahead of last year's affair, which celebrated the life of the late Karl Lagerfeld, Wintour and Bolton appeared on CBS This Morning to give a fair warning.

"These would be no-nos," Bolton told the outlet. "In the end, we're trying to raise the fund and we're trying to bring people into the museum. And we hope they have a good time, too," added Wintour.

Despite the strict guidelines, Wintour emphasized that no exact formula exists for securing an invitation. Guest selection is influenced by factors such as the exhibition's theme and cultural significance.

"We're always interested in trying to reflect a cultural moment, and what we feel is happening in the world at any given time," she previously explained. "We try and curate the guest list in a way that makes sense for whatever the theme of the exhibition. Every year we try and make it different, have different people come."

Those who don't get an exclusive invitation in the mail can pay their way through the doors. Admission to the Met Gala is steep, with tickets commanding a hefty $30,000 fee. Last year's event raised approximately $22 million for the Costume Institute.

The upcoming 2024 Met Gala will commence on Monday, May 6, at the venerable Metropolitan Museum of Art in Manhattan. As per Vogue, this annual extravaganza has traditionally taken place on the first Monday in May ever since Anna Wintour assumed the role of co-chair in 1995.

Those eager to catch a glimpse of the action can visit Vogue.com at 6 p.m. ET for a livestream of the arrivals. The hosting duties for the livestream will be helmed by La La Anthony, Ashley Graham, and Gwendoline Christie, with internet sensation Emma Chamberlain serving as the magazine's special correspondent on the red carpet.

The notable co-chairs for the 2024 Met Gala are Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, Bad Bunny, and Chris Hemsworth, Loewe creative director Jonathan Anderson and TikTok CEO Shou Chew.

The theme for the 2024 Met Gala, dubbed "Sleeping Beauties," has sparked wild speculation among pop-culture enthusiasts. With the theme paired with the mysterious "Garden of Time" dress code, fans are developing elaborate theories about what it all means. Some speculate it's a nod to timeless fashion hidden away in the Costume Institute's archives, while others whisper about hidden references to classic fairy tales.

As the world eagerly awaits the red carpet, fan-favorite attendees like Rihanna, Blake Lively, Jared Leto, and the Kardashian-Jenner clan are expected to make dazzling entrances – fueling the excitement and mystery surrounding this year's Gala.
