Beyoncé’s record-breaking Cowboy Carter Tour has become the highest-grossing country tour in history, sparking debate among country fans who believe traditional artists like Morgan Wallen and Luke Combs deserve the title.
Beyoncé has made history again, wrapping up her Cowboy Carter Tour on July 26 in Las Vegas with an astonishing $407.6 million gross from 32 shows and 1.6 million tickets sold. According to Billboard Boxscore data, this marks the highest-grossing country tour ever recorded, shattering over 40 Boxscore records in the process.
The tour's success places Beyoncé among elite company, making her the first woman and first American artist to gross over $400 million on two tours. The other being her 2023 Renaissance World Tour, which earned $579.8 million.
The tour took a unique approach, concentrating 32 shows in just nine major cities including Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, Atlanta, London, Paris, Houston, Washington D.C., and Las Vegas.
Notably, Beyoncé held five-night residencies at Los Angeles' SoFi Stadium and New York's MetLife Stadium, where she sold 250,000 tickets and grossed $70.3 million – the highest-grossing single stadium run on record. In London's Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, she brought in $61.6 million from 275,000 fans over six shows. On average, each night of the tour grossed $12.7 million, with nearly 50,000 tickets sold at an average ticket price of $255.36.
Despite the undeniable commercial success, many country music fans have expressed shock and skepticism about the tour's country music title, particularly given the Cowboy Carter album's comparatively modest streaming performance. While the album won three Grammy Awards in 2025, including Beyoncé's first Album of the Year win, it didn't dominate country streaming charts in the way longtime country artists' releases have.
Country music fans on social media have voiced opinions that artists such as Morgan Wallen, Kenny Chesney, and Luke Combs – who have built their careers rooted firmly in country traditions and consistently top country charts – deserve the title of highest-grossing country tour.
One fan wrote on X, "Morgan Wallen and Luke Combs sell out stadiums across the country every year. They should hold this record, not Beyoncé, who barely charts on country playlists."
Others shared similar sentiments, "This feels like a crossover success, but it shouldn't erase the achievements of true country artists who live and breathe the genre."
Beyoncé has addressed the discussions by highlighting her respect and love for country music's rich history. The hitmaker previously turned to social media to share the inspiration behind Cowboy Carter. She penned and recorded the album because she wanted to honor country music through a Black cultural lens, bringing fresh narratives and inclusivity to a traditionally homogenous genre.
"It was born out of an experience that I had years ago where I did not feel welcomed…and it was very clear that I wasn't," she said on Instagram. "But, because of that experience, I did a deeper dive into the history of Country music and studied our rich musical archive. It feels good to see how music can unite so many people around the world, while also amplifying the voices of some of the people who have dedicated so much of their lives educating on our musical history."
She continued, "The criticisms I faced when I first entered this genre forced me to propel past the limitations that were put on me. act ii is a result of challenging myself, and taking my time to bend and blend genres together to create this body of work."
The success of the Cowboy Carter Tour reflects broader shifts in the music industry where genre lines are increasingly blurred. Beyoncé's tour combined elements of country, pop, and R&B, attracting a diverse audience beyond traditional country fans.
Her ability to sell out massive venues worldwide speaks to her immense star power. While the debate continues, there is broad agreement that Beyoncé's Cowboy Carter Tour has set a new commercial benchmark.
