Former Miami Dolphins and Indianapolis Colts cornerback Vontae Davis was discovered deceased in his South Florida residence early Monday (April 1) morning. He was 35.

According to the Associated Press, police say no foul play is suspected. Law enforcement officers in the Fort Lauderdale suburb of Davie reported that they were called to Davis' home on Monday morning in response to a medical emergency.

Upon arrival, the 35-year-old was found deceased. The cause of death has not been disclosed, and they are waiting for the autopsy results. The investigation is still active.

Davis had a notable career spanning a decade in the NFL after being drafted 25th overall by the Dolphins in 2009 from the University of Illinois. He spent three seasons with Miami before being traded to the Indianapolis Colts, just before the commencement of the 2012 season.

Davis remained with the Colts for six seasons.

In 2018, the Washington, D.C. native signed with the Buffalo Bills but abruptly left the team during halftime of the second game of the season. In a subsequent statement, he cited multiple injuries and surgeries as the reason, stating, "Reality hit me fast and hard: I shouldn't be out there anymore."

During his tenure, Davis played in 122 games, securing 22 interceptions, one of which was returned for a touchdown. He also earned Pro Bowl selections in 2014 and 2015 while representing the Colts.

Following the devastating news, the football community flocked to social media (April 1) to mourn Davis's loss and reflect on his legacy.

"We are devastated to hear of Vontae Davis's passing. He was a standout player in his six seasons with the Horseshoe, but he was an even better teammate who carried a smile and positive energy every day," wrote The Colts. "He will be deeply missed, and we send our prayers to his family and loved ones."

The Bills were quick to remember Davis with a heartfelt tribute.

"We are saddened to learn of the passing of Vontae Davis," said the team. "We are thinking of his friends, family, and loved ones during this difficult time."
