Are you ready to return to Tree Hill, North Carolina?

Netflix is gearing up to release a sequel series of One Tree Hill, the coming-of-age drama that made waves in the early 2000s. The binge-worthy show aired from 2003 to 2012, featuring Chad Michael Murray, Paul Johansson, Sophia Bush, Bethany Joy Lenz, Jana Kramer, and more.

According to Variety, Bush, Burton, and Daneel Ackles are executive producers for the reboot. Becky Hartman-Edwards, the creative behind Firefly Lane and Parenthood, is slated to write and executive produce as well.

Although the entire cast has not been announced, Kramer revealed she’s ready to partake in the fun. During the latest episode (Sept. 8) of her Whine Down podcast, she opened up about the highly anticipated sequel and sparked excitement among longtime fans.

Kramer portrayed Alex Dupré in the original series. She joined the show in season seven to be the face of Brooke’s new clothing line, Clothes Over Bros. She also played an aspiring musician. However, Kramer never rubbed elbows with Burton’s character since she left the show in season six.

Kramer mentioned that she and Burton, who played Peyton Sawyer, have discussed the idea of Alex making a comeback. She also hinted that Burton and Sophia Bush, who portrayed Brooke Davis, would reprise their roles as mothers in the new series, which picks up 20 years later.

“I had spoked to Hilarie about Alex making an appearance when I knew about it,” she said. “We had discussed it before the news broke. It was probably like a month or so ago. I think their intention is to bring back the people that make sense.”

The sequel is expected to focus on Brooke and Peyton navigating life as parents while maintaining their strong friendship.

“Hilarie was like, ‘I never got to meet Alex, so it’d be fun to have us meet,” recalled Kramer. “I’m like, ‘I would love that. Yeah, sign me up.’ We’ll see, TBD.”

To further engage fans, Kramer ran an Instagram poll asking followers if Alex and Peyton would get along in the new storyline. Kramer made (Sept. 6) a poll with two possible answers – “Oh for sure” and “Not at all.”

The majority of fans voted yes, imagining the two strong-willed characters becoming friends.

The news of the show has fans buzzing with excitement, especially at the possibility of reuniting the original cast. Many believe that seeing beloved characters like Brooke and Peyton as moms will bring a nostalgic charm while adding emotional depth to the story.

While sequels can be unpredictable, with some hitting the mark and others falling flat, fans are optimistic this reunion will stay true to the heart of the original series. For many, the chance to see the cast back together might be the secret ingredient to making the sequel a success. Fans are hopeful that this blend of old and new will create a story that resonates with both longtime viewers and a new generation.
