The investigation into the altercation between Philadelphia Eagles star Jason Kelce and a football fan at the Penn State vs. Ohio State game has officially been closed, Penn State University Police confirmed on Tuesday, December 10.

A spokeswoman for the department told TMZ Sports that the case was closed due to a lack of evidence and complaints.

"The individual in the video footage circulating on social media has not been identified, and no one has come forward to university police with a related complaint about damage to personal property," the spokesperson stated

The incident occurred on November 2 when a heckler approached Kelce during the game and made a homophobic remark about his brother, Travis Kelce, and his relationship with Taylor Swift

The sports fan reportedly shouted, "Hey, Kelce. How does it feel your brother's a f— dating Taylor Swift?" Jason grabbed the heckler's phone and smashed it on the ground, then said, "Who's the f— now?"

The incident quickly became the center of media attention, and the fan-captured footage went viral on social media. Within the same week (Nov. 4), the former athlete addressed the altercation during the ESPN Monday Night Countdown. He took ownership of his actions and apologized for his hateful speech.

"I'm not happy with anything that took place. I'm not proud of it," he said live on national television. "Within a heated moment, I chose to greet hate with hate, and I don't think that's a productive thing. I don't think it leads to discourse."

He continued, "In that moment I fell down to a level that I shouldn't have. Bottom line is, I try to live my life by the golden rules. That's what I've always been taught. I try to treat people with decency and respect. I'm going to keep doing that moving forward."

A few days later, during the New Heights podcast, the 36-year-old spoke more into detail and reflected on his behavior.

"I'm just gonna address it because I feel like it needs one more time, and then hopefully, we can stop talking about this really stupid situation that occurred," he noted. "I'm not happy about the situation. Me reacting gave him the time of day and it also have the situation notoriety. That's what I regret. It didn't deserve attention, it's really stupid. And if I just keep walking it's a nothing burger, nobody sees it. Now it's out there and it just perpetuates more hate."

Despite the negative attention, Travis Kelce came to his brother's defense, calling out the fan's behavior and praising Jason for owning up to his actions.

"The real situation is you had some f–ing clown come up to you and talk about your family, and you reacted in a way that was defending your family," said the Chiefs tight-end. "You might have used some words that you regret using, and that's a situation that you just gotta kind of learn from and own. And I think you owning it and you speaking about it shows how sincere you are to a lot of people in the world.

Despite the closure of the investigation, some sports fans are voicing their disappointment over Penn State University Police. They are now arguing that the heckler should be held accountable for his actions and that they should look more closely into the situation.

Many see this as yet another example of how college campuses can become unsafe spaces, particularly for LGBTQ+ communities and other minorities. Without consequences, incidents like this risk creating a ripple effect of hate. The lack of eyewitnesses stepping forward has only added to the frustration, as many hoped someone would take a stand against the fan's harmful behavior.
