In a dramatic twist that’s left fans reeling, The Real Housewives of Potomac star Karen Huger has been handed a 12‑month prison sentence by a Montgomery County, Maryland judge.

The sentencing on February 26 comes more than two months after Huger was found guilty on nearly all counts stemming from her March 2024 DUI arrest. According to Fox 5 News, she was sentenced to two years in prison with one year suspended – meaning she’ll serve a full year behind bars. On top of that, Huger faces a one‑year driving ban and five years of probation.

If you’ve been following Huger’s roller-coaster ride on reality TV, this news really stings. It just goes to show that no matter how glamorous you appear, we all eventually have to face the consequences of our actions.

In March, Huger’s life took an unexpected detour when she crashed her car near Bethesda, Maryland. She crossed a median and struck street signs, leading to multiple charges, including DUI, impaired driving, negligent driving, and reckless driving.

Not long after the incident, a visibly shaken Huger spoke candidly to TMZ about her state of mind.

“Thank you all for your prayers and well wishes during this very frightening experience,” she said. “I was crying on my way home and saw a car heading right for me. I swerved to avoid the head-on collision, hit the divider, and then a tree. I’m hurt, bruised up a bit, but so grateful I am alive!”

Huger’s legal team, though disappointed with the verdict, has made it clear they’re not backing down.

“We continue to reserve Mrs. Huger’s right to an appeal and intend to fully pursue justice on her behalf,” stated her attorney A. Scott Bolden in December, as reported by People.

In the midst of these legal battles, Huger has also chosen to prioritize her personal well-being. Opting for recovery over the usual reality TV drama, she recently entered a private rehabilitation program, which led her to miss the season nine reunion taping of RHOP

“Karen made the important decision to enter a private recovery program,” explained her manager, Ryan Tresdale, to Bravo’s Daily Dish. “She was fully supported in this choice. We stand behind Karen as she embarks on this meaningful journey.”

Stay tuned for more updates on Huger’s story as it unfolds.
