Brace yourselves, Legally Blonde fans, because Amazon Prime Video just (May 14) announced a prequel series titled Elle. The streaming giant ordered the show from Reese Witherspoon's media company, Hello Sunshine.

Witherspoon, known for her iconic role as Elle Woods, will serve as executive producer on the highly anticipated series. She will work alongside Lauren Neustadter, Lauren Kisilevsky, Marc Platt, and creator Laura Kittrell to turn their vision into a reality.

The series will explore the formative high school years of the beloved protagonist, Elle Woods. Viewers are expected to be transported into Elle's world and experience her life before college before she becomes a Harvard law student.

The announcement, made during Amazon's upfront presentation to advertisers, marks a significant development since the project was first reported to be in the works back in April. Witherspoon stole the show by appearing on stage in character, complete with Elle's signature style and her faithful chihuahua, Bruiser, to reveal the series order.

Expressing her enthusiasm for the project, Witherspoon shared, "I truly couldn't be more excited about this series! Fans will get to know how Elle Woods navigated her world as a teenager with her distinct personality and ingenuity, in a way that only our beloved Elle could do."

The award-winning actress continued, "I'm extremely grateful to the incredible teams at Prime Video and Hello Sunshine – along with our amazing writer Laura Kittrell – for making this dream of mine come true. 'Legally Blonde' is back!"

Kittrell will serve as the creator, showrunner, and executive producer. Production will be handled by Amazon MGM Studios.

Vernon Sanders, head of television at Amazon MGM Studios, expressed his excitement, stating, "One of the most quotable, iconic, and beloved characters that are ingrained in the fabric of Hollywood history has to be Elle Woods, and we are honored to bring her origin story to our global Prime Video customers."

It wasn't long until Witherspoon turned to social media to share the exciting news with her devoted fandom. While some fans flooded the comment section with excitement, others shared their predictions. Many would like to see Witherspoon's daughter Ava Elizabeth Phillippe as young Elle since they are constantly referred to as "twins."

"Before she became the most famous Gemini vegetarian to graduate from Harvard Law, she was just a regular '90s high school girl. And all of you are going to get to know her, next year on @primevideo ✨ I'M SO EXCITED! 🎀💅🤩🩷," she wrote on Instagram. "Please tell us that your daughter is taking over the role," declared a follower.

With Witherspoon's vision, Kittrell's talent, and the backing of Amazon MGM Studios, Elle is poised to captivate audiences with its exploration of the early adventures of one of cinema's most cherished characters. The release date of the series has yet to be announced. Will you be watching? Share your Fan Of View below!
