Fans of The Last of Us are in for a treat!

HBO just dropped the highly anticipated news that Season 2 of the hit series, based on the iconic 2013 video game, will premiere in April on Max. And to add to the excitement, they released (Jan.6)  a gripping new teaser that's already got fans buzzing.

The teaser starts with a powerful line: "It doesn't matter if you have a code like me, there are just some things everyone agrees are just wrong," setting the stage for a season full of intense moral dilemmas and jaw-dropping moments.

Fans got their first glimpse of Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, as the stakes are raised for Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey).

The new season picks up five years after the events of Season 1, and the world is even more dangerous. Expect plenty of zombie action as Joel and Ellie continue their journey, with familiar faces like Tommy (Gabriel Luna) and Maria (Rutina Wesley) fighting to protect their home in Jackson, Wyoming.

But there's more – Ellie finds a love interest in Dina (Isabela Merced), and viewers will get answers about the fate of Tommy and Maria's baby, first revealed in Season 1. New faces join the drama this season, with Jeffrey Wright playing Isaac, and Danny Ramirez as Manny. Fans can also look forward to seeing Young Mazino as Jesse, Ariela Barer as Mel, Tati Gabrielle as Nora, and Spencer Lord as Owen.

Filming for Season 2 began early last year, and things are already shaping up for an emotional rollercoaster. At the 2024 SAG Awards, Pascal told PEOPLE that everything was "going amazing" on set, and fans are feeling the hype.

Gamers are especially pumped, with one fan saying, "I can't wait for Season 2, especially to see how people who haven't played the game react to certain events." Another shared, "Every trailer so far has me replaying the game from start to finish. The attention to detail is just insane!"

Whether you're a die-hard gamer or new to the world of The Last of Us, it's clear this season will pack an emotional punch.
