Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce has secured his future at Arrowhead Stadium for the next two years with a new contract extension, making him the highest-paid player in his position in the NFL.

The 34-year-old star finalized the terms of the extension on April 29, according to a report issued by Ian Rapoport. Kelce's agent, Mike Simon, negotiated the deal, which is now valued at over $17 million per year. Kelce previously held the fourth position with an annual contract value of $14.3 million.

Prior to this extension, the highest-paid tight end in the league was Darren Waller of the New York Giants, who earned $17 million annually.

"Hard to put in words what Travis means to this organization, this city, and he was certainly a priority to adjust his contract for us, and it was something that was important for Clark [Hunt]. So very fitting that Travis [is] now the highest-paid tight end in these two years," said general manager Brett Veach.

Following the agreement, Kelce turned to social media to share his excitement with the Chiefs Kingdom.

"An honor and a pleasure, and I can't wait to get after it these next two years," said Kelce in a selfie-style video. "Chiefs forever," he added.

Kelce's partnership with quarterback Patrick Mahomes has been pivotal for the Chiefs, with the duo breaking records together. Mahomes expressed his excitement about continuing to work alongside Kelce, referencing their historic achievements in the NFL.

"I told y'all I'll never let him leave!! Congrats, my guy!" Mahomes wrote on X. The announcement of Kelce's extension was celebrated by his teammates and his manager, André Eanes. "I can't think of anyone more deserving! Congrats @tkelce! #LeGoat."

Kelce narrowly missed his eighth consecutive 1,000-yard season in 2023 by just 16 yards, a record for his position. Despite sitting out the first game with a knee injury and resting the last to prepare for playoffs, he still had an impressive season with 93 receptions for 984 yards and five touchdowns.

In the postseason, Kelce's contributions were instrumental in the Chiefs' Super Bowl victory, with 32 catches for 355 yards and four touchdowns. Over his 11-year career, he's amassed 907 receptions, 11,328 yards, and 74 touchdowns. Kelce also holds the NFL record for postseason receptions with 165 catches for 1,903 yards and 19 touchdowns in 22 games.
