Paige DeSorbo opens up about her relationship with Craig Conover, admitting she ignored red flags and tolerated his behavior, including jealousy over her career milestones and poor communication.
Paige DeSorbo is reflecting on her three-year relationship with Southern Charm star Craig Conover, realizing she ignored many red flags.
As their breakup continues to play out on Summer House, the reality star opened up on Wednesday's aftershow (March 19), admitting that she was "blinded" by her love for Conover and tolerated more than she should have.
"I think I loved him so much that I tolerated too much," DeSorbo, 32, confessed. "And now that I'm out of it and I look back at things, I'm like, 'Oh, wait.'"
She claimed that Conover's reaction to her professional success was one of the biggest issues. According to DeSorbo, "anytime" she had a personal or career milestone, Conover would "find a way to make it about him."
"It was just embarrassing," she admitted. "So, that's something that I look back on now, and I'm like, Oh, wow, I really was very blinded.' I had to do a lot of damage control."
The Giggly Squad podcast co-host also pointed out that her national tour put a strain on the relationship, claiming Conover thought she "worked too much."
"When I started having panic attacks this fall while I was doing Giggly Squad shows, he just thought it was because I worked too much," she recalled to her co-stars. "So, it played into his, 'Well, you work too much, and you shouldn't be doing all of this.'"
In one particularly eye-opening moment, Conover encouraged her to watch a documentary about ABBA's rise to fame and how their touring schedule "ruined their marriages and their lives."
DeSorbo acknowledged that she and Conover had major communication issues as well. She described herself as "straightforward and stern," which he often considered a "personal attack."
"It was like, 'You're harsh,'" she explained. "So I would kinda have to stay more quiet when he would voice his opinions because he would always take it as, like, a personal attack."
The reality star was silent in other aspects of her life, including her career. She sometimes downplayed or kept quiet about major career wins because she knew how Conover would react.
"There were times when things would happen in my career. Would I tell him? No, absolutely not," she stressed. "Like, when I would get certain milestones, no, I wouldn't tell him because I knew he would want to be happy for me, but deep down he would not be."
DeSorbo has made it clear that there was no infidelity involved, but it seems like the romance was far from picture-perfect and over before she even called it quits.
Bravoholics are finally getting the tea they've been waiting for. Between the explosive Southern Charm reunion trailer – where the cast calls out Conover and even admits they're "scared" of him – and DeSorbo's recent confession about his red flags, it's becoming clear that Conover was the real problem.
Some fans are kicking themselves for initially blaming DeSorbo when news of their split broke. With all this new insight, it looks like the narrative is shifting and fast. How do you feel about this breakup? Let us know your Fan Of View below or by following us on Instagram.
